This product is likely the oem. It performs and appears identical to the original. Replacement on my 2001 Eclipse Spyder GT (V6) manual transmission was straightforward, using only a 24mm deep socket and an extension. I took the air cleaner tube off so I could see what I was doing, but that may not have been necessary. Job took less than 5 minutes. Since this circuit is simple and the switch is a "normally open" switch, the switch can be checked by connecting the 2 contacts in the plug with a short piece of wire or paperclip (make sure the key is in accessory). I knocked a star off because the packaging was just a padded envelope, and when recieved the box looked like they dragged (drug?)it here behind the truck. The part inside was unharmed by some small miracle. Anyhow, great product, good price, had it in 2 days.

Mr reverse lights were stuck on and jumped on google and looked at the forums and found out this part was properly the issue. It was the issue, only other issues you need a deep deep socket.

I purchased this switch for a F5M21 gearbox on my Mitsubishi Lancer 97 (94 US Mirage S). I had to put a rubber ring to separate it a bit from the gearbox because it's 1-2mm longer than OEM switch. Other than that, I highly recommend it and sometimes you have to figure what's going on before thinking that something is broken.

Though Amazon's online catalog shows this backup light switch as applicable to the 1995-1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the 420A 2.0l DOHC engine and F5MC1 transaxle (built by New Venture Gear as the A578, and installed in Chrysler Neons beginning in 1994), this transaxle-mounted switch is actually for the turbo 2.0l engine, or the 2.4l SOHC engine.Update: Consider the Airtex 1S4941 for the F5MC1 transaxle. Also fits other NVG A578-equipped vehicles, like the Dodge Neon.
