I bought this for a relative who hikes in forests to take photographs. He liked the idea!

Works great, but goes fast! You only get maybe 4 bursts out of it, but it's as powerful as a leaf blower. I use it on trespassers for non-lethal self defense when you can't use a more permanent solution for the over population crisis we're having.

I bought Griz Guard based on the other reviews by people who actually used it. AND after seeing 4 bears on my first two mt. bike rides this past June, 2022. "Oh, they're only black bears . . .", people told me. Yeah, tell that to the guy in Quebec who got his left gastroc torn off by a black bear who followed him up a tree. And yes, black bears and grizzlies ARE the same species. And both can run at 35 MPH and don't have to stick to trails. And two of these black bears were at least 300 pounds likely bigger, it would have been impolite to ask. One was a mamma in a tree with her tiny cub in another right on the trail. Not a good situation to bike by. By the way, if you are waiting for a similar situation to clear it is not a good time for a snack. Bears smell like we see, and see like we smell. We smell one thing at a time, and see all sorts of things at once. It is the other way around for bears. Some American Indians have a saying: If a leaf falls in the forest the hawk sees it, the coyote hears it, and the bear smells it. Don't run or bike away. Get "big" and back away while talking, according to the experts. There is a really instructive short vid on Youtube shot by a nature photographer handling a potentially aggressive, big black bear. I've read that handling a grizzly bear is totally different. There is another vid of a fishing guide handling a huge brown bear up close and personal. So much more compelling than Real Housewives . . . I never want to spray a bear, we are pedaling through their living room. And there have been no reports about any aggressive acts by bears where we bike. But I don't want a bear to be put down due to an unexpected run in. Give him or her a whiff and see if Pappa or Mamma want to stick around for a blast. I keep Griz Guard sticking out the top of my Camelback, like an arrow in a quiver. Make sure you know how to use it and can get to it fast if needed. There is a triangular "guard" that prevents accidental squirtage down my back and the subsequent discomfort and loss of vision.

First, let me say DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF! I live in northern Michigan in the country. The bear population has grown exponentially. I've seen one or two in my small pond out back enjoying the cool water. Last night at 11:30 I heard a noise on the front deck. Got up, turned on the deck light and saw a huge black bear. Bears have destroyed my feeders, so now I just sprinkle a little sunflower seed on the deck rail. Will discontinue that now, too. It's sad because I love those birds! Unfair that bears take precedence over them. We've lived here more than 25 years, and bears have only become a problem in the past 5.I pounded hard on the door and made loud, nasty shouts. He walked away, but I knew he didn't go far and would be back. To discourage him I grabbed my can of Griz Guard and stepped one foot out the door. He was 15 feet down the narrow deck. I gave him warning shouts but he didn't budge, so I let him have it. The can gave off a burst of dense fog that must have been potent because he took off like a bullet. The seeds were still there in the morning so he didn't come back. When I walked down to where the bear had been, the lingering chemical caused me to cough a little. This stuff really works and could save your life. Just don't be crazy/stupid and tempt fate like I did. Bears can run lightening fast if they decide to charge. No matter if you're half inside your house, you still have to get the door closed pronto!

Haven't used it yet, hope not to be close enough to require it. Don't get close to bears, don't get between momma bear and her cubs. If you see a cub in the wilderness and don't see mamma, she surely sees you , and you pose a threat and she will charge, and she will KILL you. And then show her babies how to eat you. Don't take selfies with wildlife! Don't get near any babies, you will get severely injured or killed. Remember this is THEIR home you are invading, and they didn't invite YOU. Don't feed wildlife. Don't tease wildlife. Take pictures from FAR away and leave them the H alone . Seriously I got this as a escalation deterrent because of the new PC normal. This comes between cannot run away and pull my concealed weapon.

Hopefully I never have to use it, but it looks good and holds easy. Seems strong cased. Best part was they beat their delivery date by a week!
