This is a nice, lightweight, easy to use system. It packs down small so I definitely prefer it over a plastic bear jug for bike packing or short hiking trips.

Given the price of this item I expected better. I had to replace the carabiners as they were defective; upon first opening the spring mechanism broke and they were not usable. I needed this for an upcoming trip so a return was not feasible in the timeline.

This kit will do fine work in a lot of the forests around the country known for their hiking and camping charm. If you are going up in the Rockies or where lodgepole pines are the common place you might want to add another line to stretch between two trees. Some of the picture show the bear bag right next to the tree, it should be about 15 feet above the ground and 10 feet away from the trunk of the tree. Lodgepole pines don't have that availability so you have to run a line between as the hoist line.OK, back to this kit. The assembly of parts if nice. The throw bag can hold all the parts in transit. Fill the thing with rocks and throw it over a branch and your are good. As a note, do this as soon as you decide on your camp. It sometimes takes a few throws to get it and having it all set up when its bedtime is much better than setting it up at bedtime when the sun is down. The dry bag is plenty for a couple days of food and snacks. Realize anything that has an odor goes in the bear bag. So toothpaste, stuff like that too. Anything with a smell that might attract a bear. And other critters will be in your food stocks quickly if you don't secure things properly. The carabiners are plenty for supporting the dry bag. Please note: these carabiners are not for rappelling or any support of a living being. They are plenty for their intended function, but don't expect it to hold someone's weight.Always secure your food and aromas on the trail. It is good for you and good for the bear. People who don't secure foods create an attachment of humans and food for the bears. This can be bad for you, and it will certainly be bad for the bear who then needs to be hunted. Let's let the bears be bears and use this or any other kit to secure your stores.

This packs down to nothing on backpacking trips where a bear proof container is not required.

Sturdy constuction, feels like it will hold up. But even with only two people on a three-night backpacking trip, this didn't hold as much as we needed. We could just fit our food in it, but not our toiletries.

Wanted something that was easy to tie up in bear country. Great waterproofing quality.
