Your cart is empty. Astromania IR / UV blocking filter - keeps your planetary images sharp
Really sharp planetary images are only possible using an IR/UV blocking filter. This Astromania filter only allows the visible light between 400 and 680nm through. The UV and IR regions of the spectrum are completely blocked.
CCD exposures of planets and stars - sharp images
A CCD camera is not only sensitive to visible light but also to other wavelengths. Planets not only shine in visible light, but also in the infrared for example. But they are out of focus in the IR region. The Astromania filters only lets through the visible light, the light that is really 'wanted', meaning sharp planetary images.
Blocking UV light
The harmful UV rays that can contribute to cataracts are filtered out. The filter is also essential when using a Herschel wedge.

The filter has internal reflections that cause distortions on stars. Tested with and without the filter, and it was definitely the filter that was causing the distortions. Can't speak to the effectiveness of the UV/IR cut properties as I removed the filter after seeing the star distortions.Didn't have issues with focusing like another reviewer, but did definitely run into the issue of it having internal reflections.

I purchased this filter to use as a luminance channel for my CentralDS full spectrum modded 80D DSLR. The DSLR comes with a 48mm/52mm drop-in filter holder directly in front of the sensor. Every other filter I've used has allowed the camera to focus with Canon lenses, EXCEPT this one. Standard filter glass is 2mm thick, however this one is only about 1mm, making it impossible to achieve infinity focus. To make matters worse, the coating on this filter is AWFUL! Any halfway-bright object such as a lower magnitude star creates horrid internal reflections that make this unsuitable for astrophotography. Find another IR cut filter because this one was terrible...

I picked up a ZWO ASI385MC, which does not come with IR/UV built into it. So I added this filter in front of my camera, and the images came out great.
