I got this Paint Thickness Gauge to check for repainted areas on used cars, and it’s been super handy. It’s easy to use, just place it on the car, and it instantly gives a reading. The screen rotates, so no awkward angles, and the limit alarm is a nice touch, letting me know if something seems off. It’s accurate, works on different metals, and gives me peace of mind when checking a car’s original paint. Definitely worth it if you’re buying a used car!

This coating thickness measuring device is well made and has many nice features. The screen is clear and bright and the menus are easy to navigate for a seasoned home garage enthusiast. I had to use the included testing discs to recalibrate my device as it was off by about 1.2 mils. I used a pair of precision calipers to verify the thickness of the discs beforehand. After calibration the device was accurate within state parameters, which is great news! I used this to asses the thickness of single stage paint on a classic car and it have dependable results. I was able to determine that one of the fenders had been repainted previously and/or been replaced. I also tested it on my daily driver and found the factory paint thickness to be consistent throughout. Great tool! 5/5

I recently got the AstroAI CT1500G Paint Thickness Gauge, and I couldn't be happier with it! This gauge is a game-changer for anyone needing precise measurements of paint thickness, whether you're a professional or just an average joe. I had an issue with the paint flaking off a part of my car and I brought it to the dealers attention and they said the manufacturer would fix it. I knew they would only care about the affected area and not check the thickness of paint in the surrounding areas to see if it was a matter of time before that began to flake off. That's where this tool came in and saved the day. It was able to tell me with great accuracy that the paint in the surrounding area was very thin and would be prone to the same flaking and peeling. That was confirmed also by the auto body shop I took it to for an estimate. So had I not checked it myself the initial problem would have been fixed but then sooner or later I'd be back to where I was in the beginning. The tool itself is very easy to use and intuitive. Some of its key features are as follows:High Precision: With a measuring range from 0 to 1500μm (0 to 59mil) and a resolution of 0.01μm, it delivers highly accurate and stable results.Automatic Detection: The sensitive sensor easily identifies substrates and measures their thickness without causing any damage.Four-Way Rotating Screen: The fully rotating screen allows for easy testing from various angles, making it incredibly versatile.High-Resolution Backlit Color Screen: The ultra-clear display ensures easy and intuitive data reading, even in bright sunlight or dimly-lit areas.Efficient Calibration: Capable of zero-point and multi-point calibration, this gauge meets all calibration needs, providing the most accurate results possible.Limit Alarm: The gauge allows for simple data self-adjustment for maximum and minimum values, delivering quick and precise thickness measurements.Large Data Storage Capacity: It can store 8 sets of 32 data points, totaling 256 data points, and generates a bar chart for intuitive data visualization.Overall the AstroAI is incredibly easy to use and provides reliable, accurate measurements every time. Its robust design and high-resolution screen make it easy to work with, and the data storage is a bonus for keeping track of measurements over time.If you're in the market for a paint thickness gauge, I highly recommend the AstroAI. You may not need it very often but when you do it's a fantastic tool that delivers excellent value for its price.

I do Cerakote on a DIY/Garage job level, and I've always wondered if my coats are consistent. This is especially critical when I'm doing some Piston coating. I normally put two coats on the dome side, and a slick lubricant coat on the skirt side. This gauge is used to check the thicknesses and beg for some answers on consistency. The gauge has a very large range all the way up to 50 mils I think. I think My coating requirements are under 2-3 mils, so this gauge is an absolute overkill for my application, but that's great, I have the range to check other coatings if need be.The gauge itself is pretty easy to operate, just sit the eye on the flat surface and go. The feature I find most useful is the data storage function where I can take a reading and save it, continuously doing so will get me all the areas of the coating I'm looking to measure. The only thing is I have to keep the device perfectly perpendicular to the substrate to get an accurate reading. But as far as my coating is concerned, this device achieved everything that I'm looking for. Highly recommend this unit if you're looking for an economic way of measuring your paint thickness.

This AstroAI Paint Thickness Gauge is very useful if you're dealing with used cars. It comes with an included calibration kit, so you can set an accurate baseline measurement before you get to measuring the paint on subject cars. The gauge has a memory, so you can test different spots on one vehicle and record all your findings for later analysis. You can also tell if the car has the original factory paint or if it's been repainted, which can affect the value a lot, depending on the quality of the secondary paint job. The gauge is very well-made and accurate if you use it properly, and it's a good investment that can save you thousands if you deal in used cars. The gauge comes in a very sturdy, hard case in a bright orange color, so it's well-protected and easy to find in a toolbox. It's a little difficult to understand how to work it at first, but once you get the gist of it and have it properly calibrated, it's very easy to use. 10/10, would recommend.
