Normally I don't like to brag however the Arturia KayLab Essential 49 is flawless as a standalone controller. It's competition (Novat***) can't even come close. Here is why.PROS:The Keybed is from Fatar (A huge plus)The ARPS are killerThe display is easy to navigate and readThe pitch and mod wheels feel excellentModern USB-C and Standard Midi with sustain jack.Powered by USBFaders and knobs feel really good when moving themThe included software is so much better than its competitor*** Works Flawlessly with Akai Force and MPC One, One+ and MPC Software. ****** Works so good with Roland MC 707, Aria Rythm composer and Verselab MV-1 ***The "Midi Learn" on the Akai force and MPC series allows you to instantly control your drum rolls, Envelopes, drops and samples right off the que from the Arturia KeyLab Essential. (This is super fantastic). No other controller that I have used has this ability to work so well with Akai. (Not even the MPKs or Mini) In my opinion. The chord progression is fantastic on the KeyLab Essential 49.I love how you can assign the samples to your scores and recall them in with the pads on the Arturia KeyLab 49.CONS:No matter which Arturia KeyLab you purchase it has the "ugly fake wooden sides". Arturia, for a few extra dollars should include vinyl color sides for you to stick on or leave the sides the color of the board. For all you AKAI OWNERS, you will love this. (my opinion only)Overall, out of 8 different controllers that I use for Hardware Groove Boxes like Akai & Roland, there is noting that comes close. Thank you Arturia! Money well spent!

So I originally had a Roland Juno Gi, and never should have parted ways with it. I am a beginner when it comes to Midi keyboards and never did I expect to have the issues I had with this. Firstly, installing the software took roughly 2-3 hours to get everything completely registered. Once everything was done, it was simple plug in to play on the DAW's installed. Now this has no internal speakers, so everything you hear will come directly through your computers speakers. You cannot and repeat cannot use any sort of bluetooth to stream even with screen sharing to speakers and get sound out of it. The only way to get sound is to first create a song and download it to play via speakers. Bluetooth headphones will not work, and connected headphones to the actual keyboard do not connect. The keys on the keyboard feel nice to them, but had issues when it tried to register each time I hit my finger on one. Sometimes it read it, sometimes not. Very frustrating. When trying to contact Arturia for support, they only have an email option, which takes upwards of 2-3 weeks to hear back from them. Not a great start. The ASC or Arturia Software Companion app helps you install all that you need to get this started, only to be welcomed with not installed and have to directly manually head to Arturia to download each sample and software individually which is time consuming and no reason to download the app. The sounds this produces is absolutely stellar, when it wants to work, sometimes the screen freezes and the notes just lock up to where the computer is overloading itself. It is more of a hassle to get to work then to actually sit back and get to enjoy this midi keyboard. Personally, I prefer a keyboard that can be plugged into an amplifier, headphones, or just something that I can play where other people can hear me. I don't need this software, thinking I would be a music producer, and make killer sounds. What's the point if I can barely hear the sounds coming from my computer? It is not worth it and really strongly recommend going with something other than a Midi keyboard, unless you're a musical professional and understand how these keyboards work. I personally thought I could easily learn the system, but it is just a cheap plastic keyboarding sticking freezing mess.UPDATE: 1/3/24Firstly I would like to state that I ordered the MK3 49 key keyboard from Amazon. I was so excited to get my hands on music producing and got everything downloaded with no problems. I noticed a big issue when playing with the keyboard, I couldn't get any sound out of it. I tried a usb hub, and that didn't work. I tried plugging the keyboard directly into my mac, which did recognize it and was able to play the keys, but the sound was very muted. I could barely hear anything coming from the keyboard, and thought connecting my macbook to bluetooth would solve the problem. Nothing worked..... So, I listened right up to my mac's speakers and could hear some sound, and upon clicking on the keys, they started to lock. They wouldn't register my pressure on the keys and therefore could not record the sound I was trying to achieve. Then came the screen issue. I noticed that the screen froze on multiple occasions and had to unplug the device and plug it back in to see it was working properly. I for the life of me wanted to get this keyboard to work, and sadly had to reach out to Amazon for customer support. They in turn sent me a return and had to send the item back.

This is a controller not a synthesizer. Controllers are keyboards that control other devices via MIDI. This controller does MIDI over USB or 5-pin MIDI port. It comes with a fantastic software bundle, including Analog Lab Pro which is a collection of soft synths that normally costs $200 by itself, Ableton Live Lite which is only bundled with keyboards and is nearly identical to Ableton Live Intro which sells for $99, and The Gentleman piano which sells for $99, as well as several other other pieces of software. That is well over $400 in software included with a keyboard that costs about half that. This is probably the best quality keyboard you can find in this price range as well. They keys feel great, the knobs and sliders feel sturdy while also moving smoothly. The large display is easy to read. The keyboard just works with the included software, but you can also easily program the sliders, knobs, and buttons to map them to specific functions on other MIDI gear. There are 6 user programmable banks to store custom configuration (in addition to the two read only banks used for controlling the included software and digital audio workstations). The only thing I wish it had was polyphonic aftertouch, however I have yet to see a keyboard in this price range with that functionality. It ticks every other box and it is worth it for the software alone.
