I used this filler on some woods that are known to be difficult to plane and sand. I was able to get a fine finish on the hardwoods, no lingering fibers after sanding. I probably should use it before planing next time and sand less. The gel is easy to apply and dries quickly. A little goes a long way.

I've use a similar product for filling wood grain before painting. I wanted to try this product to fill layer lines on a 3d print before painting the piece. The results were excellent! It is a big plus that the product is easily cleaned up with soup and water.

It does work well for filling in wood grain. But like most patches, does shrink a bit so will most likely need multiple costs. Definitely serves an important purpose though.

I used this on two different table builds. One was an oak kitchen table and the other was a walnut dining table. Both came out amazingly. It’s super easy to apply and dries pretty quickly. I put it directly on the walnut and it was fine but putting it directly on the oak turned the oak a green color. I had to sand it off and apply one coat of poly before re-applying. The directions would have told me to do that had I read them. Very versatile and can be used on many different wood species.

The best thing about this filler for me was its soft gel texture. It's not so loose that it flows but not so viscous that it's hard to spread. I applied it easily with a shop towel, working it into the grain with a circular motion. It dried quickly - I typically gave it 45 minutes but could have probably sanded sooner. One mistake I made was that I applied/sanded 3 coats of filler before any seal coat on my finished piece and that prevented some of the end grain in particular from absorbing my finish and taking on the darker color we see when we apply our first coat of finish. That left my piece a bit splotchy until I gave it a vigorous sanding and then re-applied my wax oil finish. My plan for future will be to apply a coat of shellac or finishing oil, then proceed with the Aqua Coat filler until smooth before putting on my final finish coats. I've always found the texture of filler to be a pain - too runny or too stiff - and this product really hits the sweet spot for me.

Used to grain fill cedar neck and rosewood back and sides on a guitar build. Approximately 3 coats required, each lightly sanded before re-applying. Subsequent varnishing came out glass smooth.

I bought this product to fill grain on oak kitchen cabinets which I was about to paint. We did not want to see the distinctive oak grain through the new paint. We had already decided to replace the original doors with new paint-grade, maple-framed doors with MDF raised panels. So I had only to contend with the face frames and end panels, a total of about 40 square feet. I used much less than a fifth of the container on the frames and panels of our 22-door kitchen. This quart container would do at least 2 or 3 kitchens this size, doors and all.I applied the filler with a 2" putty knife, spreading thinly and diagonally across each area of grain. A little goes an awfully long way. It dries fairly quickly when on a surface, though the open container doesn't exhibit excessive drying. The product does shrink quite a bit, even in wood pores. Second or maybe third coats will be necessary for good results. Overnight drying leaves a hard surface (a good thing!). I found that any ridges I may have left between strokes could be smoothed next day with a fine scraper. 220 or 150 sandpaper on a hard wooden sanding block clogs rather quickly, especially if you work too fast. 220 sanding pads clean readily under water. We are very pleased with the surface we created with this product. Not cheap, but really does the job.

I have been building "Heirloom Quality" Custom Woodwork for 35+ years, every species from "Alder to Zebrawood" has been in my shop at one time or another, I've never had ANY complaints, the Finish is what my clientele sees first, It can make or ruin a nice custom project. With some of the species I work with selling as much as $40 a board foot, I can't afford to "cut around" some twisted or curly grain, Aqua Coat Clear Wood Grain Filler is the best answer for most of my finish problems, apply oil, stain, dye or what is needed, coat with clear dewaxed shellac, sand w/ 320 grit, clean off the surface, "wipe on, wipe off" like paste wax, let it sit for 1-2 minutes, scrape across the grain w/ a bondo knife, give it a day to dry, sand w/400 grit, if needed for open grain, repete- seal with shellac, sand w/600 grit- top coat with anything -Polyurethane- Lacquer- Clear Enamel, or what is best for your project. It will look as smooth as glass, it fills all the pores, all the open grain- it can be tinted w/ water based tint, and used over bare wood. I have never had any problems with this filler, it's the easiest product to use for a smooth as silk finish- Thanks Amazon for carring such a wonderful product, at a very good price

So this stuff works great on some wood, but for others it does not work so great. The one thing I love about this stuff is that it is a clear gel that can be tinted and is easy to spread and work into the grain. I used a transtint mission brown in the grain filler over the general finish dark cherry stain and my goodness does it make the grain pop. It was absolutely beautiful. So thats what I like about this stuff. What I do not like about it and the reason I gave it 5 stars is because it just does not work very well on heavily coarse grained woods such as red oak and ash. Works great for fine grain woods such as maple and sycamore though. Now if the manufacturer stated that this product was not good option for heavy grained woods. Then this would be a 5 star product, but you are led to believe it will be great for any type of wood and that is just not the case. This stuff will will with heavily grained woods, but it is a time consuming process, because you will have to apply 5 or 6 coats of the stuff. Maybe more with an hour of drying and sanding in between each coat.So your project is a fine to medium grain wood then I say go for it. This stuff will work great for those. If you are working with heavily grained wood though. Then look for something else as there are better grain fillers out there for this type of wood.
