OEM replacement canister. Comes with an O-ring to put into the drain side fitting. Works great. Some units (I am on my 3rd or 4th over the years) have cathodes that aren't exactly parallel.

I also bought new electrode cables to fit the electrode pin connectors on on top of the canister. When I pushed down on the O shaped female cable connector the electrode pins slid into the canister. I had to use needle nose pliers to pull those pins back up and then use the needle nose pliers to grip the pins while I pushed the female electrode connector onto the pins. I was able to do that and now everything is working.

Manufacturer's replacement. High quality and price reflects it. Price increases have been over past three years have outpaced inflation. I would buy a knock-off if I could find one with same quality. But the canister works as advertised and provides humidity for one year in a 2500 square foot residence with a forced air HVAC system.

This canister matched the original exactly and was straightforward to put in. The instructions were easy to follow. If you are comfortable with minor mechanical household upkeep, this should be easy to install. You will need a Phillips screwdriver, and a small flat screw driver (maybe a jewelers type), to get a rubber O-ring out. You need to turn off the power and shut of the water to the humidifier unit, so know where these controls are before you start. One of the steps involves confirming that the electrode wires are OK. The electrode wires are really just two wires that connect to the top of the canister. It's easy to check these wires. What you are really checking is that they are fitting snugly, and that they have 'O' shaped rather than 'D' shaped connector ends. That is easy to do, and I'd suggest you do that before installing the new canister. 'D' shaped connectors won't fit the new canister (and need to be replaced). Loosely fitting connectors should be replaced as well. That is a good thing to know before you get half-way through the job and have to order them. Eventually, the electrode wires will probably need to be replaced (mine did not). Also - keep the old canister as a reference when you put the new canister in. At one point the instructions said to make sure there was a strainer attached. Looking at the old one, it's just a plastic piece that fits on the bottom. It was there, but I'm guessing it can fall off and that's why they had you check. All in all, it is an easy job. My indicator light was not calling for replacement after almost two years, but I decided to do it anyway (mine sits downstream of a water softener). Judging from the amount of solid gunk in the old canister I probably should have done it sooner. I'm not sure what the unit uses to judge when it should be replaced, but it is seems to error on the bad side. All in all a pretty easy job and the instructions were reasonably good!

It works, it's an exact replacement for a canister that Aprilaire says should be replaced periodically (but I think maybe you could just clean yours out annually and replace it after 2-3 years, depending I guess on the hardness of your water supply) - but it's awfully expensive for what it is. I'd investigate off-brand replacements.

This canister is a sacrificial part of an awesome humidifier. It's easily installed; it actually takes the humidifier longer to go through it's shut down procedure than to change the canister.I've had my Aprilaire humidifier for about 15 years and the replacement canisters have been about $60 for a long time, they have now increased to nearly $100. Other vendors seem to be about the same price point.Water quality has everything to do with the canister's longevity. I've had cartridges that would only last about 3 weeks before having an indication. I installed a water softener about 2 years ago and a canister will last all winter now. I installed an inline filter on the water supply going to my dehumidifier and tried a "lime buster" cartridge but didn't help much; a softener is the only solution if you have hard water.I spoke to a customer service rep at AprilAire some time ago who was very helpful and knowledgeable who told me about a cleaning method for the canisters. When you get a notification to replace, remove the old cartridge and soak it in a tub or sink with water and a high concentration of CLR or white vinegar. Make sure the water is deep enough to fill the cartridge. Let it soak for 24-48 hours and slosh it around periodically. Rinse it thoroughly with clear water and allow to air dry. If you take time to look into the top of the canister before soaking you can see the electrodes, they look like screens, you can see a lot of mineral build up. Take another look after cleaning and rinsing and they will be visibly cleaner. I've cleaned canisters as many as 3 times and reused them. If you try this procedure, it might be a good idea to look at the electrodes in a new one for future reference.
