Easy to follow patterns, knit up quickly in chunky wool. Four hats made so far from book. Great fun. More design would be welcome.

Wish they didn't use novelty yarns but the patterns are well written and the majority of them are really cute. As for the yarn thing don't let it stop you there are websites to find yarns that are similar to what's used so it's not a issue.

super fun hats to knit - just make sure if you are doing a knitted liner, that you make it a little smaller. I think the directions say to make it the same as the main hat, but then it's too bulky, so just add in some decreases, or cast on fewer stitches to start.

I'm an experienced knitter, but found the patterns a little bit lacking. Great detail is provided for just about everything--except for a few little touches, like the preferred method (if there is one) for casting on a largish number of stitches in the middle of a row. I noticed too that the frog's eyes are so loosely knit the stuffing shows, so it will start to whisker out with wear. Given the price of the yarns, that is a fairly serious design flaw.Another problem is that the book doesn't lay flat so I had to copy out the pattern, scanning was not very successful due to the tight binding. I first thought I hought I could use it as-is but it kept snapping shut! This book needed a knitter to go through and edit it for content, and a couple of the projects (like the frog) need to be improved. The pictures are very cute and what I have knitted so far seems to look like a hat should.

I prefer crochet to knitting, so my knitting patterns must be super easy. This book is the answer. I have not made a hat yet, but I have read the instructions and they are easy to follow. I like a pattern where you can "see" it in your mind's eye as you read it. The patterns use chunky yarn and big needles, so the hats knit up quickly. You can also adapt any of the patterns to a plain hat if you don't want an animal on your head. It includes directions in the back for a liner hat that is made of finer yarn on smaller needles, so it is very versatile.

I think this will be my favorite knitting book. I am now knitting a hat for each of my 6 grandchildren, and my 33 year old daughter also wants one. They knit up fast and you can match the colors to the patterns or as I am doing, using different yarn and colors. instructions are easy and the yarn used is chunky to super bulkey.

This book is simply great! I have bought it for my children but I was so impressed by the stylish designs that I actually started to knit several hats for myself too :-) The descriptions are easy to follow even for those who have not knitted for a long time and the result is simply great! It might be hard to find the yarns in Germany though because the ones named in the book are all high-quality British brands such as Rowan (and consequently not cheap). Luckily, I was able to find a British online-shop that also delivers to Germany for free if you order enough ;-)So I have started with the fox for myself and got so hooked up that I am now knitting the rabbit and will absolutely have to make the cat too! My husband was very much impressed by the lion. There is also a chicken, a monkey, a dog, a mouse, a penguin, a frog, a panda and a koala, a cute pink piggy and even an elephant and a cow. There are surely enough designs to fit all the tastes.I have ordered several books devoted to animal hats and I liked these designs the best - they are not at all childish and look great when finished. I personally love working with high-quality yarns, but I imagine that those who wish to make something simple with cheap yarns will be disappointed.

I have yet to make anything from this book, but looking over the patterns/directions briefly, the patterns look to be easy enough. There are some really great choices and I'm looking forward to making a bunch of these!****** UPDATE 14 May 2014 **************I have since completed one of the hats (Panda Hat) and started another one. It made up super easy and the finished product was super cute. I look forward to making more animal hats!

The patterns are well written and easy to follow. Some of the needles required are in very hard to find sizes. Make sure you check your gage though. I went to several shops trying to find the right size needles only to find when I did get them that they were too big and I was able to make do with needles I already had. The most difficult thing about these hats is deciding which one to do first. Every pattern is a winner!

All of the hats in this book are super cute and sized for both adults and children. All of the patterns look really easy. The one thing I do not like is that all the hats are knit flat and then sewn up the back. I'd rather knit in the round and skip the seams. I haven't looked at all the patterns in extreme detail, but it seems like for most you could sub in another hat pattern and then just add the animal embellishments. Heavy yarns are used, so these should knit up pretty quickly.Animals included:elephantmonkeypigfrogcatfoxpenguinchickenmousecowpandarabbitliondogkoalaI'm planning on making hats out of this book for my niece and nephew for Christmas. I'll update my review once I've done that.
