The principle of this one is a frame around the Ninja V recorder and Velcro attachments for the actual shade. The frame fits the recorder well and leave the intakes for the fan open. When you attach the frame you need to screw in from top and bottom. The screws for that are nicely countersunk. BUT it leaves you with a slightly offset placement as normally you screw an attachment for the Ninja V right in the middle. You are only a little off so no big deal for me and I think for most other users. The shade fits well. The only thing I will probably do after experiencing it during use is to shorten the bottom two Velcro straps as they are a bit too long. They are not in the way so I might just leave them like that. What is a very nice touch is the clamp that comes with the frame which allows you to tighten down your HDMI cable. This not only prevents accidental disconnect but also alleviates stress on the Ninja V HDMI in port.

The first review that shows up for me here is a 1-star review which was very close to scaring me away from buying this product. I'm glad I took the chance because it's just totally wrong and the reviewer's complaints are because he isn't using it right. The Ninja V fits *perfectly* into this cage. The Ninja V has a top and bottom screw hole which line up perfectly with the holes on the cage. Once fastened, there is no give or wobble at all and it's very secure. The two screws that dig into the side of the Ninja V that the 1-star reviewer complained about are the ones that you're supposed to screw into the screw holes, not into the side of the Ninja where there are no screw holes...So anyway, it works really well. The HDMI protector thingy is a good touch too because not only does it do a great job protecting the HDMI plug, but it also protrudes out from the cage just enough to also be slightly longer than the SSD caddy (if you have a full size SSD in there), so it actually protects the SSD too.Highly recommend.

The cage and shade work great. I have had no problems. Very protective. I must mention the price is amazing, as there are no other cages in this price range with the shade that I could find.

I was worried about their not being tabs to hold SSDs in place and that it might pivot around my Ninja V. The small rig cage has tabs to hold the SSD in place and screws on the side so the cage always stays lined up. I haven't had any issued with the cage moving once attached and don't NEED to secure the SSD. It stays in place just fine. The one feature that sold me, besides it being half the price as the smallrig cage, was the thumbscrews for the HMDI clamp. I love that mechanism. I travel with my gear so I tear down my rig after a shoot. Being able to remove the HMDI cable without a screwdriver(needed for the small rig cage) is very important to me. I would definitely recommend. After buying one to test the quality, I bought a second one for my other Ninja V.Pros:priceincluded sun hoodadjustable hdmi clamp!Cons:no ssd supports like on the smallrig

This is just great. I read reviews about it scuffing the corners of the Shinobi so I put some gaffers tape on the Shinobi first. Why not? The cage is sturdy. The screws set into the Shinobi and how it secure. the hood is no precise in its fit, but is good enough. For ½ the price of others, why not? Go for it!

I have to say that I was very disappointed with this product. I bought this because I wanted to protect the aluminum sides and edges of my Atomos Ninja V recorder/monitor. I acquired it used and it had already picked up a few small scrapes along the way, and this seemed like the ideal way to protect it. Also, since my entire video rig is built around a camera cage, it only seemed logical to protect my valuable Atomos in the same way. I assumed that the Andycine cage would fit perfectly and that there would be some kind of clamping mechanism that held it in place securely. Well, the only "clamps" are two threaded screws on one side of the cage that, when tightened, dig directly into the finish of the Atomos. This is an amateurish approach at best. I wanted to protect the Atomos, not damage it! Worst of all, even with the screws in place and tightened, the monitor can still pop right out. Unbelievable! This is partly due to the poor design of the cage, and partly due to those two screws being on only one side of the monitor. It did occur to me that with monitor cage mounted to the top handle of my camera rig, the screw passing from the monitor mount on the handle through the cage and into the threaded receptacle on the bottom of the Atomos would provide the security that the Andycine cage alone did not. Alas, my moniitor mount uses a captive 1/4" screw and the cage has a 3/16" receptacle. I could have used an adapter bushing to make it fit, but then the screw would not pass all the way through the cage and into the Atomos. Thus, the cage would be firmly attached to the rig, but the Atomos would still be free to fly out of the cage should someone bump the rig a bit too hard. And what is the point of buying a cage if it doesn't protect the thing it's designed to fit? Back it goes for a refund.

I was hesitant to buy a cage for my Ninja V simply because I didn't want the added weight, but the price was right for this one so I gave it a short. It's very light and the fit, although not perfect (the curves in the corners are tighter than the Ninja) is very very close to perfect and more than good enough. It seems sturdy and doesn't block anything while adding a ton of mounting options, nato rails on top and bottom are very handy. It doesn't offer a ton of extra protection to the screen but seems like it would save a drop if the monitor landed on an edge which seems to be the entire point. The HDMI clamp is not pictured on the Ninja V in the listing...but it will fit and function properly on a Ninja, it just needs to be mounted backwards with the M3 screws TOWARDS the screen. This doesn't cause any issues since the wing nuts are adjustable and easy to get away from the screen and the HDMI clamp mounts on the cage in either direction. The HDMI clamp also sticks out a hair further on the back of the cage which adds more support for SSD drives. Overall it's well worth the $70

I ordered this cage for use with the Atomos Ninja V, and was impressed with the build quality and fit. I was a bit surprised to see little to nothing in the way of operating instructions, but if you've worked with cages for video equipment before, it shouldn't be too much trouble to figure out. The weight is just about what I expected, and getting a cable locking part specifically for the Ninja V was a nice bonus I wasn't expecting. Overall, I'm very satisfied with my purchase, and am considering buying another for my Atomos Shinobi.
