About this item

  • Music Ideas Out of The Box-- Donner Essential B1 synthesizer offers 128 presets for storing your music ideas. If you are new to electronic music, you could also benefit from its factory contents. With the Song Mode added in firmware V1.1.0, you can chain patterns to make more complex music phrases
  • Innovative Haptic Pads-- The modern silicon haptic pads with dynamic color-changing backlights outperform the traditional tiny little buttons on the original 303. With these pads, you can perform synth basslines on the fly. You can also utilize the onboard 8-mode arpeggiator to jam your idea out
  • Intuitive Step Sequencer-- The sequencer is the key to the Essential B1. Instead of giving you one of the most complicated sequencers on the planet, we make it as intuitive as it can be. No need to be a headache while programming your idea anymore
  • Faithful To The Original-- There are also several live performance features while running patterns, to make the Essential B1 more playable. The synthesis engine on Essential B1 is straightforward. With only 1 VCO, 1 VCF, And 1 VCA, You can't get the wrong sound. To get the organic sound texture, we keep the signal path fully analog
  • Analog Built-In Effects-- The analog saturation and delay effects located at the end of the signal path make the sound of the Essential B1 more warm and fancy, helping you get the right sound from the get-go
  • Versatile Connectivity-- You can connect the Essential B1 to your DAW using the USB Type-C, serving as a MIDI controller to speed up your music production process. Two full-size 5-pin MIDI I/O and Sync I/O allow easier communication with other hardware devices
  • Tips-- We have compiled three guide documents (PDF) for software installation, use, and troubleshooting, which are located in the part of the "Product guides and documents" ( After the part of the "Product information"). Please ask the Donner Online Customer Team (US) through the Product Order Page if you have any questions

The switches look like they can be easily damaged so care is needed when storing or taking it somewhere.

I was on the fence but we needed a small bass synth in our set up and it was on sale and I liked the reviews. I use this this with a keystep pro as the controller ans sequencer. I’m going for sound and sound shaping options but not so much interested in the sequencer. It sounds amazing and what I was looking for. I wish I would have bought it sooner. Easy to shape sound and intuitive.

A small, portable synth with one VCO, two waveforms, a filter, delay, distortion, a key that is easy to play, sequencing, a number of useful built in rhythms. Remarkably easy to get going right out of the box and start having fun with. More connectivity than any of my other synths, which was completely unexpected. The bang for buck, value for money is off the charts. You can’t find a better synth value, right up there with the NTS-1 for inexpensive fun.

So I needed this little bass synth like I needed a another hole in my head, but when a promotional discount popped up, I couldn’t resist. This device is very simple, has a fun feature set (mine came loaded with the latest firmware, version 1.1.0 as of this writing) and most importantly, sounds awesome!Compared to similar sounding devices, which can be a bit intimidating to work with, Donner is to be commended for the clean design and easy operation of this instrument. If you want to sequence some classic acid bass sounds and want the easiest path to get there, at a bargain price, this is the one. :)

I've had this synth for almost a year, and I absolutely love it. The sound of this synth is slightly different from that of an original 303, but for the price, this one can't be beaten.-easy-to-use controls unlike the original 303-the keys and knobs feel nice and don't feel cheap.-very loud andThere was one major issue. This is my second unit; the first one I bought arrived with a dead "up" button. However, the issue was promptly resolved, and the company replaced my unit free of charge. I don't know how common this issue is but I have seen this issue a few times from other people online.

I always wanted a 303. The original one on the used market cost a fortune. Almost bought a clone from another company, but let's face it, a 303 is hard to program, it is not intuitive.Donner fixed that. That unit is easy and fun to play. Sync's well with other gear and it sounds great. Not exactly like an original 303, but it sounds good. It is useable. It is not just a toy. It is a legit instrument.Donner has a software to program and save patches. Very easy to use.

Significantly easier to program than an original 303. Sonically....is it an EXACT match? I don't know, and I don't really care. It's got the right vibe and feel, capable of deep, earth-shaking bass and squelchy fat leads, with sick analog oscillators, filters, and controls.I had a Roland TB-3 prior to this, and there were things about the TB-3 interface that were cool, but it was complicated to program actual basslines and melodies, and the touchscreen interface was better at real-time modulation than composition/performance, for me. I like the Donner interface much better. One downside is there is a faint but audible hiss, instead of dead silence, when this machine is not making music. In a live context it would probably be unnoticeable, but in a studio recording, you would want to gate it or noise-remove it after recording.

I am a bassist, and I remember my bass tutor getting into synth bass in the mid '80s. Now I understand why. This thing has been so much fun. I can't express my renewed enthusiasm over music again. And I never stopped playing. It's cheap, it sounds great, it's got features way above it's price point. You'll have fun making music.
