WOW! This is bright! So bright that I don't need it on full brightness, I run this with the dial set between 5 to 6. I bought this to replace my 12 year old fluorescent ring light which was getting less and less bright.I didn't use the plastic ring, I just cut three small squares of black electrical tape and stuck those on the barlow lens. The only complaint I have is that the bright light makes a reflection off of a PCB into one eye more than the other on my stereo microscope. But that happens with any ring light, so the solution is to angle your PCB a little.

I use this LED light ring with my stereo microscope and consider it essential. Ambient light is too variable when working with a stereo microscope on printed circuit boards with small components. This light ring allows me to put light where I am looking and adjust the brightness as needed with the rheostat on the controller. The higher the rheostat setting, the more LEDs illuminate. This light ring will save your eyesight and much time. Time=$$$. However, there was one significant problem and the reason I gave AmScope only 3 stars. The plastic ring adapter, that mounts the LED light ring to the objective lens housing, would not thread properly when used with the 0.5x Barlow lens that I purchased a month later. On close inspection, I observed that there was insufficient thread depth engagement between the plastic adapter and the metal Barlow lens housing, resulting in the LED light ring falling off the Barlow lens with a slight mechanical tap, such as would occur during normal use. I both emailed and called AmScope several times requesting their assistance. Eventually, their customer service representative, "Travis," said that he would send me a metal replacement adapter. To make the story shorter, after several follow-up emails and telephone calls over a period of a few weeks, eventually I convinced Travis to ship the metal adapter to me, which he did after he spoke with his non-customer focused management. It should not have taken this much effort by me for AmScope's management do the right thing for their customer, but Travis made the effort on my behalf with his management. It would be far better for AmScope to replace the plastic adapter with the metal version to eliminate the hassle and is worth the extra cost to get better quality. If you plan to use your microscope frequently, you will appreciate this guidance.

Worked fine for a week. Then half the lights became intermittent. See picture. Don't buy this. Save yourself the aggravation.

I have the SM-2TZZ scope and needed to get very high resolution on nano samples we are testing. The light on the scope just does not work well at the resolution level. The SM-2TZZ has a 1X and 2X lens at the base and this unit sits nicely over the 2X and it has an adapter for the 1X. The light has 3 set screws which are easily tightened and released and the control allows for great adjustment of light intensity from the LEDs. I can get what I need at highest resolution and the ring does not interfere with the scope and its allows for relatively even coverage of light intensity. The color adjustments are simple using the AmScope White adjust which you must use every time. Good price, great quality.

Works great. Provides clear white adjustable lighting just above the target field. Best part is the continuously adjustable intensity controlled by a regular potentiometer (versus incremental push button style). Easy to find the best illumination for the sample analyzed.

I received this item and have used for 3 weeks. I like this 144-LED microscope ring light as it saves space and provides enough luminosity for procedures under stereomicroscop. In addition the price is good.

I purchased the AmScope 3.5X-180X INSPECTION TRINOCULAR STEREO ZOOM MICROSCOPE along with the LED light ring. I have found that the halogen bulbs get extremely hot, both the bottom and top and do not generate enough light for viewing various items when in full zoom. Because the scope is new the original halogen bulbs and lamps will create a plastic burning smell due to the amount of heat they produce. I assume this smell will go away over time. The LED produces little to zero heat and produces a white light instead a warm yellow light. Highly recommend the LED light. My primary use of the light and scope is to capture photos and video of freshwater lifeforms and plants for the show Talking Scuba. If doing DSLR photography or video using the AmScope SLR / D-SLR Camera Adapter for Microscopes I have found that additional LED lights may be necessary to get enough light for a good exposure without bumping up the ISO. Be prepared to setup additional LED lights on a stand to get proper exposure. When using my T3i I found that there was so much light on the subject to the naked eye it look almost white - but in the camera it had normal exposure.

I purchased this LED light to replace a florescent one that came with a used stereo scope I purchased earlier this year. I use it for examining small dental tool parts I inspect for repair purposes. This light really allows me to see the fine detail and quickly find the extent of wear, or damage of parts which I can quickly then determine if replacement is needed. The old light was too dim at high power, and there's really a night and day difference! With this light, I don't even have to have it turned to high when I'm using the highest power setting at 90x. I find leaving the brightness setting about 1/2 to 3/4 is sufficient for my purposes. I can see the smallest detail when I'm inspecting parts for wear and damage. It also is excellent for inspecting parts after cleaning them in an ultrasonic cleaner to see how well it cleaned them up. With LED's, I should not have to worry about bulbs burning out, and I really like the white light this one produces. If you purchase an inspection microscope for similar purposes as mine, I highly recommend this light!
