I have a huge wand I took when I traveled until I saw this at my work, engineer, and my dentist uses ultraviolet too.

You can take it just about anywhere. Best used for close up viewing such as fluorescent minerals. Same for finding animal urine stains. Just have to get fairly close.

Really depends on what you are looking for. Its really inexpensive compared to the standard UV lights that operate on 120 volts, and illuminated my fluorescent silica gel plates adequately for about 25 hours of total use. A tendency to flicker back and forth between brighter and lesser levels of illumination was obvious from the first week, and over the period of use it faded to a level that could only be used in a completely darkened room.Would also recommend that anyone buying this item also invest in a set of Nickel Hydride rechargeable batteries and a charger, as it is a battery pig. Goes through a set of four AA batteries in about an hour of use.I've ordered another inexpensive, battery powered UV lamp from another supplier but it has not arrived yet. Hoping it will do a little better, but for purposes of my current project, can buy a few of these and still come out ahead of the cost of one of the higher end 120 V units.

This light does an adequate job. I was expecting something more robust. Getting rechargable batteries in and out is quite the task.good for entry level
