I needed a new garbage disposal so like a lot of people, I started by looking at the local big box stores. What I found was they all had one inexpensive one and several higher end ones that cost considerably more. Considering that the ine we were replacing was a 1/2 HP cheapo one that lasted almost 20 years I didn't see the need to get a high end one that cost a lot more. This Amana garbage disposal has the same HP as my old one and comes from a trusted brand. The installation was super easy and it's compact size fit perfectly under the sink while still leaving room for all of the "junk" we all leave under our sinks. As long as this garbage disposal last even a fraction of the time my last one lasted I will consider this a good value purchase.

Fairly easy to install as long as you have the power ran under the sink.I have a double sink so I did have to redo some of the plumbing for the drain pipes.Does handle a heavy amount of food as long as you keep the water running and have a good flow to keep the food going into the disposal.

I wanted a new disposal because I'm installing a new sink, new plumbing etc. When I got the opportunity to be sent one, I jumped on it. This was my first time installing one. The directions for the most part were clear, but they could have been a bit more descriptive for a first time installer. After opening it I noticed this one was quite a bit smaller than my 20 year Badger 1/3 hp and this one is 1/2 hp. I liked that this one came with a power plug already installed on it and I didn't need to buy a separate kit. The drain/flange part fit my new sink without any issues. The hardest part I had was loosening the screws in the bracket. I'm fairly strong and for a couple of minutes I didn't think I'd be able to do it, or that I'd need to try WD-40. For whatever reason, they were incredibly, incredibly tight. It took me about an hour to install it, but I bet if you've done this before you could do it in half that. I did have to cut down the black waste pipe with a hacksaw to fit my under sink situation, but the directions said that was a possibility. So far I haven't had any issues with leaking. It does seem louder than my old one. When I turn it on, there is a sharp metallic clink sound, but it goes away after. I've shoved strawberries and eggshells in and they went down smoothly with no trace left. Overall, besides the noise I'm happy. I also think most inexperienced people could get this installed too, I think for what it is, it is certainly among the lesser complicated models. I would recommend it. (Also, the notoriously always accurate internet said the metallic sound often gets better with use, so fingers crossed.)

Unlike most people who purchase and install garbage disposals, we don't use them as a disposal solution. Instead, we understand that there will always be smaller particles of food that migrate into the drain and should be ground fine. Therefore, the massive 1-1/2 disposals are great at grinding up watermelon rinds and chunks of food, but they also excel at clogging drains with fine muddy particles of sludge. Being a contractor for decades, I have seen and serviced many such situations. This is why I advocate for limited use of disposals. It's also why a 1/2 HP disposal is plenty powerful for most residential applications. We got this Amana for another reason. Our few-years-old 1/2 HP disposal is just a little to chubby to allow clearance for the reverse osmosis filter system we plan to install under the sink. We were resigned to the fact that we would need to size down to an expensive slim version or a smaller HP off-branded disposal. This Amana A50 disposal is about 1 inch slimmer than our installed disposal. The amount of space needed to accommodate my planned filter system is that 1/2" of extra afforded by this A50. Our surprise occurred when we inverted the disposal and found that Insinkerator is the manufacturer. This brand is the high end go-to for disposals. At $99, this disposal is a bargain. Same guts, same function. Less $$.A curiosity was noted when we unpacked the unit. A green placard included in the packaging advertises the "New Lift & Latch Technology." We have installed hundreds of disposals and 95% of them use this type of connection. There is nothing new about it. In fact, if you have a recently installed disposal, you could unhook it and latch this one right into place. We don't recommend using an old mount without resealing it prior to a new install, but it is the very same hardware. With a preinstalled corded plug, the install is easier. However, in previous iterations, you could use a take-all electrical connector and an appliance cord to achieve the same thing. Because of the way this disposal is designed, there is no threaded electrical connection made. It is a strain-relief corded connection only. Another item missing from this kit is the jam-breaker wrench that was common with all previous versions of Insinkerator disposals. (BTW, the ISE brand spanned multiple manufacturers branding.) The jam breaker was a large allen wrench type tool that was canted to assist in securing the lock ring onto the drain flange. It also could be inserted into the underside of the disposal to manually rotate the internals to loosen a jammed item in the grinding mechanism. The branded sticker on the underside of this A50 covers the location where a jam breaker would be inserted. All other functions and features of this disposal are what you'd expect from the Badger Insinkerator style disposal. Indeed, it is a plastic case, but pretty much all of them are now at this price point. The plastic case also lightens the load without compromising function. We are happy to maximize undercounter space with the slim profile of this small, yet powerful disposal.

This garbage disposer is excellent quality and more than adequate for my household use. It is 1/2hp and a fairly compact design. The disposal works well for rinsing a plate of food particles. It's generally not advised to put things like bones or big chunks of food in your disposal. If you already had a disposal, this should be an easy swap. It comes with everything you need to bolt it in. If you don't have one, you need to make sure you have a power source controlled by a switch for the disposal. You might also have to modify your plumbing if it isn't set up for a disposal already. Most average homeowners should be able to install it. Overall, the disposal works well.

Disposer works just fine. It’s not as quiet as some of the more expensive options.Installation was pretty simple. All of the plumbing matched up with the 20-year-old unit we replaced.Great option if you need a quality basic model.
