This model is designed to work with a septic tank. It is my second. Its predecessor of the same model started to die after 12 years of use which doesn't seem too bad. It is quiet, grinds well and in the three occasions that I've had the septic emptied there did not seem to be any problem.

We have always had Insinkerator disposals and have never had problems. We bought this when we remodeled our kitchen. Our old one was still good and we sold it with the old sink. Our other disposal was the same size and as heavy. You will notice that on the newer sinks which don’t have centered drains that this disposal can be a bit cramped against your cabinet. Take measurements when you are buying this large of a disposal and make sure the position of your sink drain is going to accommodate the size. The sink we purchased used its own type of connector as it has a seamless drain. The regular Insinkerator bracket works great with any conventional sink and makes the installation easier. This model does not have the connection for the EZ connect plug and had to be hard wired or adapted for plug in installation with a different type of plug.

I ordered the same disposal that I have had for about ten years, and wanted to replace it with the same brand. This new one is quieter than the old one and because it was the same design and size, I didn’t have to change the piping, which saved a lot of time with installation. Looking forward to the excellent performance of my old garbage disposal!

**** didn't include enzyme solution. My handyman didn't realize that until after he installed it and I asked him if he put that in he said there was nothing in the box and I verified that unfortunately now it's too late to return it** I am very excited about this garbage disposal because I thought I wouldn't be able to have one with a septic system in a 1937 farmhouse. We did have do a little creative reworking to the plumbing. The installation manual was easy to follow and I am quite pleased with it for the price.

This is second one I’ve owned, of all I have ever installed this is definitely a nice one, quiet in comparison, plenty of power along with enzyme injection for rural septic systems.

See the pic for what is included with the item. This is the second one we have bought and we have been very happy with the existing one, which we have had for 2-years. A good size and power level in that it hasn't clogged once (touch wood!). The dispenser works well for adding enzymes as we are on septic. We're renovating and adding a second sink so we splurged and will have two in the kitchen if that tells you anything about our satisfaction level - lol!

1 year in and still very happy. Installation was a breeze and everything has held up perfectly. Plenty of power and the enzyme seems to last quite a long time before needing to refill. Definitely happy with the purchase.

This was a good solution for us in our new house that has a septic system. We were always told you can't use a garbage disposal with septic systems, which isn't true if you use the right one. This is the right one.I was tempted to buy the top InSinkErator model - the Evolution Excel. But after contacting InSinkErator, this one is the way to go with septic systems. It has a dual blade system that pulverizes food particles into dust. It then injects a few drops of their septic solution (bacteria) down the drain to help the particles biodegrade in your septic system. This will not harm your septic system and will help all that food break down. It's the easiest disposal I've ever installed, and I did it myself without help. I got it to twist on easier than any other disposal I've used, which is saying something. Usually installing these is super frustrating! The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Make sure the exit drain from the disposal is HIGHER than the drain running out the house, or you can't have a disposal. Water flows with gravity, so if your exit drain leaving the house is higher than this one, water will just sit in your disposal and stink up your house. This is a very quiet disposal and chews up everything I put in it. I installed a push button disposal switch on top of my sink when we had our new sink installed for a clean look.It does not come with any kind of power cord. However, you can buy a dishwasher power cord at your local hardware store (HD, Lowe's) and they work perfectly. That's what I used and I had no issue. You just need an outlet under your sink (I had an electrician install one for us).Overall I'm very pleased with this disposal, and I'm glad I didn't spend more money on the Excel as it's not necessary for septic systems.

Arrived in a couple of days, reasonably easy to install, quiet motor, much better to have this type of action (rubber slats in plug, preventing things from falling in; switch under sink) than one of those clunky metal plugs which you have to turn in the sink and work around when you are actually using the sink. Appreciate the fact that it seems good for the septic tank too. Thank you.

This unit replaced a 20-y old one. Easy to install: we were even able to use the collar already installed on the sink instead of the one provided. It was just a matter of hooking up the electric cable (we had a switch-operated unit - no need for the additional expense of a cable) and finding the right size of PVC tube at Home Depot. Sure, it is a bit big, but it still fits easily under the sink. Make sure you buy additional liquid as it seems that a bottle, under normal use, may not last longer than 3 months,
