There is considerable evidence that the primary difference between good and poor readers lies in the good reader's phonological processing ability. The best predictor of reading difficulty in kindergarten or first grade is the inability to segment words and syllables into constituent sound units (phonemic awareness). Phonemic Awareness is important but difficult. Therefore, we worked with teachers and educators to develop this sound box reading manipulative kit to solve the confusing problem of phonemes. These learning & education tools give children more and more confidence in their ability to learn and solve problems.
Five Elkonin Boxes
Visual spacing lines separate the word from the sound. Grids help children keep each sound properly lined up improving accuracy. The bottom 3 line handwriting area allows your child to write upper and lower case letters correctly.
Meaningful TOY for Preschool, Kindergarten,1st Grade
These learning materials help children understand the alphabetic principle in decoding and spelling. It's a great educational and practical toy for kids on birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, back to school, Easter, New Year, and Halloween candy bags.
Easy to Write on and Wipe Clean
Smooth surface that is easy to write on and wipe clean without leaving stains. The kit comes with 4 magnetic makers and erasers, which can be firmly adhered to the surface of the paddle to prevent pens from being lost. The eraser attached to the pen cap is more convenient to carry.
Speech Development Toys
As an individual reads, they must identify letter(s) and their sounds and blend these sounds together to read a word. This is called decoding. Decoding and comprehension are processes needed to read and understand what is being read. Our phonics tools are great for young children, early readers, students with speech and language difficulties, and English as a second language learner. It's an essential tool to improve speech and is ideal for small group work, independent practice, or learning centers.

The quality of the boards & magnets is amazing! They are super sturdy, clean off easily, don’t chip because of the framed edges, and the magnets actually stick! I love using these in my small reading groups!

Product just arrived. Seems to be quality. Two things would make it 5 stars. First there are NO directions on how to use. I'm a teacher so that wasn't a problem for me but I can see persons without training on Elkonin boxes might be confused. Second. A word list would have been nice. I not sure what the boom box is supposed to represent. I created word cards and I called it music. This could be a problem for ELL persons.

This toy can be used in many different ways, from prereader-elementary. From sounding words out, spelling, syllables, and the list goes on. My preschool-aged daughter has really enjoyed the dry-erase feature with the paddle boards. Another great feature is the markers themselves. They have a nice tip similar to a pencil, have an eraser on the cap, and include a magnetic which sticks to the paddles. The red and blue foam pieces do show wear and tear easily as well the paddle does scratch. But for as much use as we get out of it, this set is worth it.
