Works perfectly. It has a brush to test the sensation within it. The only thing that would make it better would be if there was a sharp-dull needle in built to it, which this one doesn't but some other companies do. Other than that, this product is worth the money.

I got this for around $11 before starting my peds neuro sub I (4th year med student), a lot cheaper than other reflex hammers. I preferred this to a babinski bc it fits in your pocket easier and personally I don’t feel as awkward getting certain angles with the tromner. It isn’t as heavy as better quality hammers, but definitely still better than most and I was able to get all reflexes on the kids which I think is a win and speaks to the quality of the product. Definitely a product I recommend for med students especially.

If you're reading this review, you probably have some idea of the use of these reflex hammers. The gold standard reflex hammer used, especially by neurologists, will be the Tromner hammer. The expensive and well-built MDF Tromner is the one typically used. MDF is full metal and feels heavy, and has excellent weight to elicit the reflexes. In addition the entire handle stays cool, useful for testing sensory temperature. This ADC dupe of the MDF has one major substitution, its handle is plastic. Despite this, it still has excellent head-loaded weight to effectively elicit reflexes. The build does indeed feel cheaper, but you're getting this at >50-60% off from the MDF, so its worth it. Additionally, make sure to screw in each part to make sure the parts are screwed in properly - mine had some loose parts, just required some twisting.I'd definitely recommend using this hammer if you're in med/nursing school as its better at responses than the typical tomahawk/triangle hammer, and more convenient than a Queen Square. If I go into a specialty requiring a fancy reflex hammer, I would upgrade to a MDF branded one, but if not, this is excellent for any other use.

Excellent price and standard quality Tromner. I prefer queens square but the telescoping ones are terrible and the solid ones are hard to carry around the hospital. So I have come to use Tromner as my standard. This one does the job perfectly at a price point that I can afford to give to medical students when they do a physical examination that impresses me.

It's perfect. It's much better than the Taylor hammers for getting a reflex, and you don't look like a cartoon doctor while you use it. Nice and weighty at the end and very easy and satisfying to use. The knurling on the hammer ends unscrew so you could theoretically replace the rubber tips if you could find the replacement parts. The spike at the bottom is ideal to check for a Babinski, and it unscrews to reveal... A metal brush? What's that for? None of the neurologists knew. Might be some kind of old-timey thing we don't use anymore. Anyway it's a great item and a big upgrade from a Taylor hammer (sometimes called a "tomahawk").

A MI ME HA ENCANTADO. Y LO PREFIERO AL MODELO QUE ES TOTALMENTE METÁLICO.

Used during a neurology rotation in school. Very sturdy. The plastic handle and heavier metal head allows for a nice swinging motion. Fits reasonably well in white coat pocket. This style of hammer is probably the best compared to other styles (taylor, queen, etc.), in my opinion. Compared to the all metal versions of this hammer, the weight distribution of this one is quite nice. I don't think there is a big tradeoff between metal and plastic handles in terms of durability.

I needed a tromner reflex hammer for my neurology rotations, so I decided to try this one out. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money on it since I am not sure if I will stay in neurology after this rotation, so this one was the best compromise between price and quality. The handle is plastic rather than a nice sturdy metal, but it seems sturdy enough and should hold up. All the parts can screw off and be replaced if they break, which is nice. Not sure I will ever use the brush since it can’t easily be disinfected, but it’s a nice feature in theory.

High quality reflex hammer. Feels very solid in hand, with a nicely weighted head, making it very easy to illicit reflexes. Overall would recommend!

I was using a cheap reflex hammer before I got this one and I never knew what a difference a quality reflex hammer could make! The weight is distributed beautifully on this hammer and it makes checking reflexes a breeze. It feels very sturdy and I can easily throw it in my bag on the way to the clinic. I also love that it has a built-in microfilament. The only thing I would warn you of is that others will be jealous and try to steal your hammer.

This reflex hammer is great. It is comparable to the MDF version of this tool. If you are a poor medical student or resident looking for a decently priced Tromner, this item will suit your needs well. Other reviews note that the shaft seems slightly flexible, which it is, if you grab it by both hands and try to bend it. The flex is not appreciable when eliciting reflexes. It may actually be an advantage considering the mechanics of DTR testing, and in terms of durability. Indeed the MDF Tromner I ordered previously came with the shaft broken near the head. The MDF tool is made of a more stiff/brittle material. Overall I think the two products are very comparable in efficacy, and for half the price I favor this ADC Tromner. Besides if you are going into neurology or PM&R, etc. you are probably going to buy a tool nicer than either of the afore mentioned anyway.
