This adapter is very useful for working on computers with WiFi, keyboard and trackpad issues and to download drivers and do other updates to help solve other problems. The extra USB ports can support an external mouse and keyboard when needed. A very useful device.

Originally, I complained because the unit didn't work. Since then, support did get back to me and replaced my original device. The replacement did just as advertised. It connected immediately on each of the devices that I tried it on. Also works as expected. The only reason that I took a star off is that the support link on this site points to a dead link. If you email support@ablewe.com they should get back to you. It make take several days, but they made the replacement process very easy. No complaints at all with the support other than the confusion on how to get a hold of them.

I got a new Mac computer a year ago, and this adapter to go with it, as I use ethernet. Early on, my computer would alert me that it was no longer online. Occasionally it would get itself back online, but 95% of the time, it would just give up on trying to connect, and I would have to turn off the machine and reboot from scratch. This would happen multiple times a day. I was continually calling Apple Tech Support to find out what was going on. Different techs proposed different solutions-- from adjusting settings in sleep and screensaver modes, to changing ethernet cables, to comparisons with wifi functioning (at the library), to upgrading internet speed, to getting various diagnostics done on the computer and on the provider modem. I spent about 10 hours of tech phone calls on this and many hours redoing long emails and docs that didn't have a chance to save before the disconnect. Finally this week, a particular error message appeared, "USB accessories disabled. Unplug the accessory using too much power to re-enable USB devices." Apparently it is the ABLEWE ethernet adapter that has been causing the problem.I have been talking with Amazon customer service who have tried to help, but because it is over a year old, they say they have no way to refund directly. However---and other disgruntled ABLEWE adapter users, take note-- THIS ADAPTER HAS A 24-MONTH WARRANTY. Amazon folks encouraged me to contact the manufacturer at www.ablewe.com and give them the Amazon order number, pointing to the warranty. The Amazon team asked me to report back to them on the outcome. I will follow through.

I evaluated the performance of the USB-C to Ethernet and USB-C to USB-A hub adapter. The Ethernet test was to a share across a Gb network. The USB hub test was comparing a USB-C high-performance mechanical external hard drive to the same drive with a USB-C to USB-A adapter plugged into the USB-A 3-port hub on the adapter. I simply wanted to ensure the adapter was usable, e.g. within a "Texas mile" of native. The adapter's performance was indistinguishable from native for both Ethernet and USB. However, when you plug in a USB device, you lose the Ethernet. In the rare situations that would actually necessary, I have a simple USB-C to USB-A adapter to gain a USB-A if required. For a USB-C-only laptop the advantages for travel are:1. It gives you an Ethernet port you can use for connectivity or to bail out another device where a direct connection is required to rescue it. Some backup programs can actually do a bare-metal restore that way.2. For approximately $2 more than just an Ethernet-only device, you get a USB-A 3.0 hub with 3 ports for charging or interfacing multiple devices that use USB-A to whatever. You gain the ability to rescue devices through their USB 2.0 ports since only USB 2.0 ports never require a functional operating system to work, which is why many computers with 3.0 ports maintain a couple 2.0 ports for their mouse and keyboard to remain operational during boot. Moreover, it enables you to use it to add a USB-to-serial port adapter to enable connecting to the serial ports of appliance devices such as higher-end firewalls, microwave communication controllers, etc. because it is their native interface and to see error codes or rescue them. Even if you don't have the expertise, you might need it to enable a tech support person to help bail you out.
