I am still waiting on stencils and black iron studs from Amazon to finish the shield, but I wanted to get this posted for those that may be considering this shield boss. The boss is as close to perfect as one could get. Beautiful work and finish. It came nicely packaged with a light coat of grease or light oil. (wash with soap and water before applying any finish). For this particular finish I scuffed the surface with 240 grit sandpaper, one coat of spray KILZ, one coat of a good primer, and two final coats of flat black. For reference, the shield diameter is 24". Now, where is that rascal Ivar the Boneless...........

They are a bit large to be historical and the shape is a bit off, but I was in a hurry and the price was right! Very solid. I don't love the bright finish, but could have fire blackened them and taken a peen hammer to them to roughen up the look.

Not much to say, other than it is a quality shield boss. It arrived pretty quick, and I'd wager it would look good on just about any round shield. Pretty tough too, as I had to take a hammer to it to install on my shield, and there's no noticeable dents or dings at all. The actual product does look a little different than the cover photo, but that's my only gripe with it, (not a big deal for me) and it still looks good either way.

While it may not be a period correct piece bc its made out of stainless and not wrought iron, this boss goes beyond what youd use for larping. Its def heavy enough to take some serious punishment as well as dish it out. I would def buy another, though i doubt ill need too as its really sturdy.

Cleverly, I used this for exactly what it was intended for, a shield boss for a Roman parma shield. It's exactly as described and it is extremely strong and difficult to get a better price. I didn't want to spend the money for brass.I do wish it came with rivets but had no trouble finding any at my local hardware store. (Just whining cause I had to go get them) Honestly, great item and thank you.
