There were a bunch of canvas bags and mallets on the market, and I chose this because it was a bit more pricey and looked more sturdy, and I'm happy with my choice. I got great results the first time I made crushed ice. The bag is heavy canvas, easy to use, and the mallet has a larger head than I expected.

Don’t smack it hard but you should hit it multiple times lightly with the mallet for the desired effect

It's an ice bag, nothing spectacular. The material is durable and well made. I have no complaints and would buy this for any bar setup.

It takes a little practice to crack the cubes first by striking with the sharp edge of the mallet. Not having too many cubes in the bag at one time helps. If you lay the bag flat and have a single layer of cubes that’s about right. After cracking, then you can smash the cubes into snow or rough pieces depending on what you want.A couple of points. Let the ice sit in the bag for a few minutes to help keep the cubes separated. The bag will leak water, so best to use it near a sink. Use a scoop to remove the ice. Only crush as much as you need at a time. A single layer made enough crushed ice for 6 tiki drinks.The bag is nice and double thick and shouldn’t tear if you use the mallet properly. The mallet is sturdy and solidly put together. I got the natural color bag and ran it through the washing machine on delicate before use. Turning it inside out also helps to trim up any loose threads with scissors to keep them out of your ice and drinks.I am happy with this purchase. It is a simple, but effective method to produce bar quality crushed ice for my tiki drinks without a lot of mess or cleanup afterward. The quality of the bag and mallet are good enough to justify the higher price as compared to some of the other sellers’ products.

When your Lewis bag and hammer set arrives, the box makes you think you’ve been delivered your very own Mjolnir. You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d only received a hammer, because that’s all that’s mentioned on the outside of the box. When I went to open the box, it looked already opened and resealed with tape. Seems like the manufacturer decided to turn these into Lewis bag kits by opening the hammer boxes, and slipping the Lewis bags inside the box in the empty space made by the handle. Then the manufacturer resealed the hammer boxes, that are now Lewis bag kits, with scotch tape. The cheap re-taping job honestly makes the whole thing look used, which is icky. After returning and receiving a fresh new Lewis bag kit in the same way, I realized what had been done.The quality of this hammer and bag are excellent! The set is definitely gift quality. The hammer is very large and the angles of the shape make it more effective to crush ice the way you want. You definitely want to wash the Lewis bag out before first use to avoid strings in your ice. After making that mistake, I let mine air dry afterwards by hanging it from its sew-in bottom loop.Very happy with this Lewis bag kit. Happy ice crushing!
