I do love me some bao buns and I also love to try to make different things from scratch, so I was intrigued by this little maker. On receipt, it looks like it's really well made and just a very simple design, so not much that can go wrong. I've been reading about making them and looking at recipes and can't wait to try. I did note that most recipes say to take a small ball of dough and roll it out individually, which makes the little ring cutter that comes with it not really useful, but, it will give me a guideline for how big to roll out the circle of dough. I can't imagine taking the time to make all of the needed pleats by hand as a rookie - it would take forever. The outcome of these in pictures is so cute and looks so easy. The mechanism was very smooth and seemed to work well; the plastic material it is made of seems sturdy. I can't wait to actually try it out.

If you're a fan of steamed pork buns but not so much the tedious aspect of folding the dough around the filling, this simple little device is for you. It does not come with comprehensive instructions and definitely no recipe book, so don't expect much more than just the device. But armed with a rolling pin and a portioner to create a nice dollop of filling, you can be generating trays of bao in no time.As others have noted, the crimp on the top may need a little help. Use a wet finger to moisten around the edges of the dough before putting it into the crimper and then just pinch it shut. Easy enough and you'll have picture perfect bao.

I got this to make bao with my kids and family over the holidays. We just tried it and although it helped some with putting the boa together, it doesn't close enough to seal the boa so we ended up using our hands to close up each one. The instructions don't provide any info on how thick the dough should be or the diameter so there was a lot of trail and error. That being said, we still had fun!

This is my first one of these so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but we overall like it. Was a little confusing to use for us at first but we figured it out and it is going ok now. Took some trial and error to get the dough right but we are making pretty good dumplings now. The machine itself is holding up ok to our use and cleaning.
