Did not care for the unfinished hook. Looks like just a cut off piece of steel. I would guess if you didn't do some smoothing, you might do some damage to the snake, which is why I bought it so I wouldn't.

This retractable isn’t sturdy at all it actually broke and I had to use some tape and glue to fix it and can’t fold it anymore

I love my hook for copperheads especially but it will not hold the weight of larger snakes in my case I had a 5 foot cottonmouth that bent it like a horseshoe
