This collapsible snake hook would be a valuable addition to a backpacker but maybe not so much for a real snake wrangler. I say that because it is collapsible. It has two plastic telescoping clamps that we all know sometimes fail at the worst time. But with limited use they should work well. The hook itself is stainless steel and the poles are a lightweight aluminum. It extends to 41": and has a non-slip rubber handle. For a backpacker - Yes, For a professional - No.

I don't think you will be disappointed if you purchase this snake hook. I have a full-grown carpet python that has quite a bit of heft. This hook can support all of his weight with no issues. The body feel super solid and is of such thickness that I think only the largest of snakes would cause it to flex. The head screws in easily if you want to break it down for storage. The hook feel lightweight and nimble in hand. I definitely recommend this if you are in the market for a new snake hook. A+

We get calls to help move snakes in our neighborhood. It's all about making sure the snake stays safe and non venomous snakes are not killed.Frankly, I didn’t read the description as well as I normally do and was surprised this snake hookcollapses down to a very manageable carry size when not in use. It has two snap open adjustment points that let you slide the poles out to its full length. When tightened back downit is as solid as if it were just one solid pole. To me this is a GREAT plus for the hook.Once extended, the pole and hook are well balanced and easy to use. If you are working to capture a snake that is less that accommodating (black racer), you will not get fatigued from too heavy a front end.The tip of the hook is tapered to allow you to slide it under a snake, but the tip itself is blunt soyou do not risk injuring the snake. The bend in the metal as it transitions into the hookprovides a solid area for the snake to wrap around. This will help the snake to feel more secureand lessen its need to keep moving.The length of the entire poll is sufficient to work with larger snakes. While the concept of asnake hook is simple, the design of this one is very well thought out, and I feel very comfortablerecommending it to anyone who has the need or desire to work with snakes.Keep in mind you must be licensed to move a venomous snake so I recommend this hook for those who want to help folks move non venomous snakes.

The first red flag was the unusual packaging and language on the box... what is a Smarkey Mounting Branket? The hook part of this device is fine; solid metal, heavy weight. But the plastic components of the extensible pole are about the same quality as an $11 camera tripod I bought recently that broke on the first use. I don't have high confidence that this pole will stay firmly locked in place when extended and clamped, which is not a feeling I want when handling snakes. I would say this is fine for use with your average non-venomous snakes, if you have to move/remove them but don't like touching them. But if you're in an area with dangerous snakes that you need to wrangle, I would invest in professional equipment.

We use for grabbing things not snakes, but it works well. the telescoping is nice and the hook is very sturdy.

I needed a snake hook to carry in my backpack when I'm hiking in the everglades. This adjustable hook is going to be just what I was looking for. It's light, but sturdy enough to get the job done.
