Metric Helical Threaded Insert Kit

Drilling

  • Note that the hole cannot be drilled into a tapered shape, and the chips generated by the hole must be blown out with compressed air.
M3 Thread

Tapping

  • Use special taps for wire thread inserts to tap. The depth of tapping must exceed the installation length of wire thread inserts; the threaded holes after tapping are blown out with compressed air spray guns.
  • When the thread accuracy is high, check the tapped bottom hole with the special bottom hole plug gauge for the thread screw sleeve.
Wire Thread Inserts

Installation

  • Put the wire thread insert into the hollow slot in the middle of the installation wrench, insert the wire thread insert mounting tail handle into the guide rod groove of the mounting wrench, and turn the mounting wrench handle to screw the wire thread insert into the screw hole.
  • Note: During the installation and screwing process of the wire thread insert, there should be no pressing action in the vertical direction. The correct method is to slowly screw in the thread rotation direction.
Helicoil Type Screw Repair Sleeve Assortment Kit

Break the Installation Handle

  • Use a breaker to break the mounting tail handle. Use about 200g of coconut to hit the breaker instantly and the tail handle can be removed.
  • Be careful not to use the installation wrench to rotate in the opposite direction.
HSS Drill Helicoil Repair Kit

Advantage

  • Wire thread inserts are used in various low-strength materials, which can greatly improve the durability of screw connections and avoid damage to the connecting threads.
  • Due to the certain elasticity of the wire threaded sleeve, the load distribution on each circle of the thread can be more uniform, and the pitch and thread deviation between the screw and the screw hole can be eliminated.
  • The locking type wire thread insert can lock the screw in the threaded hole, so that the screw will not loosen when subjected to shock and vibration, and the process performance is better than the usual locking device.
  • The hardness of the wire thread insert is higher than that of the screw, so it is less worn during the assembly and disassembly process of the screw connection and can be used repeatedly.

Use

  • Enhance connection strength and improve connection conditions. Low-strength materials such as aluminum and magnesium are selected for wire thread inserts, which can avoid slippage and wrong teeth, and obtain excellent connection performance.
  • Prevent loosening. Used in frequently disassembled parts, it can greatly improve the service life of threads.
  • Increase the bearing surface. It is used for parts that require strong connection force and cannot increase the diameter of the screw hole.
  • Easy to maintain. Install the damaged screw hole into the steel wire screw sleeve and continue to use it after repair to avoid the possibility of damage to the workpiece.

I was using this to fix stripped threads on my Kaabo e-scooter’s controller box. Drilling the first hole was fine, but the cutting bit broke off in literally 2 seconds. It is now permanently stuck in there and I have to wait up to 6 weeks to get a replacement controller box. Super frustrating and very inconvenient right now.

Had 3 threaded holes in aluminum which were all stripped out. The holes were a 5/32, and I could not find helicoils for that size. Luckily M4 was just a tab bigger, and this kit did not disappoint. Easy to use. Now I have metal threads in a aluminum body. Saved a part that I thought I would have to throw out.

Normally I use Time-Sert to repair damaged threads (not a super huge fan of Heli-coil type inserts). However, when it came to repairing some damaged threads on a Stihl 036 magnesium housing, I ran into a situation where I didn't have enough room for a full Time-sert insert.I found this repair kit on Amazon and decided to take a chance on it. Wow, super nice. The inserts are nice and everything is well made. Ran the tap into the hole and then installed the insert with some bearing retaining compound. One word of caution: once you start the threaded insert, there is no backing up. Make sure you are ready to insert for real if you start to thread the insert, because it contracts slightly during installation, but expands (like a spring) if you attempt to reverse.Attached is a picture showing the repair I did on an M4 hole. Turned out great.

Worked perfectly! I was a bit skeptical of trying to fix such a tiny screw hole. I think it is now stronger than the original.Working with such tiny fasteners is tricky. Although I put the drill bit in the chuck of my Dremel tool, I turned it manually so as to not go too far. In this way you can feel exactly what you are doing. I also used only the inner part of the insertion tool because it better let me see how far the coil was inserting.

No instructions supplied. The good news first- I successfully repaired 4 threads in an aluminum block. The problem was the tool that was supplied to insert the coils. It is a 2 piece design with a machined shaft inserted into the handle. The glue joint between the 2 pieces failed with very minimal torque. I had to super glue it to get it to work. The inserts themselves seemed ok but when you remove the drive segment hit the tool firmly. I tried hitting it gently and the insert uncoiled.

This product (Stainless Steel Helicoil Type Set (M3 x 2D)) worked great for repairing the messed up thread on traxxas 2.5 TRX engine, where the starter backplate mates to the rear of the engine.Process was simple: drill out the old hole with the supplied drill bit (go slow). Make sure to cover any exposed areas of the engine, that the metal scraps could get into. Use some compressed air to clean off the engine. Tap the new hole (spray some WD-40 in the hole prior to tapping). Next screw in the heli-coil. The entire process took about 10-15 minutes.

For an inexpensive option this thread kit was great. It worked well and as long as you have an idea of how to use it you should be happy with it. It doesn't come with instructions, but if you are buying a thread repair kit you should have at least some knowledge of how these work. Quality seems good. Worked perfectly for my needs (re-threading bridge plate on a guitar).

I bought this to repair threads in an aluminum Pitts Style Muffler for my R/C airplane. I used the included drill and tap. The included instructions were not detailed enough, so I went to YouTube and found a video of somebody using this exact product. I broke the first two Heli-coils because I pushed too hard when threading the coil into the tapped out hole. The tangs are supposed to break off, but not until you have the coil sufficiently threaded. Third time was a charm. This saved me from having to buy a new Pitts Style Muffler to the tune of $50. The price of this tool is very reasonable. I like the fact that there are 50 coils included. I'm really amazed that they make Helicoils this small.
