I start dozens of plants every year and hate using soil just for a seed to not sprout. These sponges are more economical. If it sprouts, I can transfer to soil. If not, oh well. Great for the bulk gardener.

I've had a 100% germination rate using these sponges with various batches of peppers, tomatoes, peas, rat tail radishes, and cosmos. The peat blend seems to perfectly accommodate all these seeds, resulting in consistently rapid growth for each variety, with strong root and top growth—even without additional nutrients (as I typically start the seeds before transplanting them to the garden). These are five-star hydro sponges.*Side note: I soak the sponges for anywhere between 10 minutes and overnight, and they fit snugly in all my grow baskets. My baskets include a mix of name-brand and generic options, and the sponges fit them all perfectly.
