Grippy and reduces excess noise. I have an e-drum setup and the bass pedal creates excess noise. This really helps. First picture shows the bottom grip side (to the left), second pic shows it in use.

For me the main purpose of a drum rug is to keep the bass drum and hi-hat from sliding away as I play them. Because the top surface of this rug is fairly smooth, I wasn't sure if it would fulfill that need. But because the rug is especially thick, the instruments and stands sink into it slightly, and in my case that makes them stay put well enough. The rug is not so thick that the stands become tippy.The bottom side of the rug has a visible pattern of white or gray dots. These dots don't feel rubbery, but just like little hard dots. If desired, the rug could be used with the dots on top, which might provide even greater slip resistance to the equipment. In my experience, my body weight on the throne is enough to hold the rug in place on the floor.Will this rug, or any rug, soundproof the drum room? No. But it will reduce reflected sound from the floor, and it looks nice and does the job of keeping the kick and hat in place.
