I’m an animal control officer and I love these. I would not recommend using them for snakes over 2.5 feet though. I used them to pick up a snake over 3 feet long one time and the snake was too heavy. The tongs held the snake no problem but it caused the poll to bend when I lifted it up.

Tongs are sturdy and a solid grip to pick up or retrieve items from on top of shelves or ledges.

There are times I have needed to move snakes, and this seems like it will be a much better solution than my normal method of picking them up with a stick. It has meanwhile come in handy for reaching tools and other things that are a bit awkward to get to. This tool is very lightweight, yet sturdy. I have used it to pick up items weighing a couple of pounds without issue. There is some play where the two lengths of tube join together, but they added a sleeve that slides over the two joined sections, as well as a spring-loaded pin to align the sections. That sleeve adds a lot of strength to that joint. It seems plenty sturdy for what it is designed to do, despite the slight play. I have not used it on a snake yet, but we have used it to pick up a lot of different items. It will pick up an apple easily, without breaking the skin. It does leave small indentations where the apple is gripped, but an apple is pretty delicate. Given how a snake is built, I would guess it would not harm a snake, but I am not qualified to weigh in on that. I did notice that if I hold an apple for several seconds, the apple may drop, and I'm not sure if that is because my hand gets tired or if the springs relax. Either way, if I focus on gripping the apple that does not happen. It does take some pressure to hold this closed, so I am guessing my hands are relaxing a bit when I don't stay focused. My final take is that this will be a game changer when I need to move a snake again, and until then it will get plenty of use on other things.
