This Eye Bolt combo includes an M8 bolt with a square block at one end. While this large square head is supposed to be used in a slot channel, this is particularly useful for mounting in other ways, including a welded joint. Welding to a threaded bolt or a hex head bold doesn’t give much surface area with which to weld, however the large square head is perfect for welded applications. In my case, I am using the eye bolt to support a cable pulley that lifts a bucket from a 30-foot hand dug water well from the 1800s. I drilled a 5/16 hole in a steel arm, slipped the M8 bolt through the hole with the square head on top and welded the head in place (see photos). Then I threaded on the eye beneath and followed that with an M8 nut to which Loctight was applied. This eye bolt was perfect for my application!
