3M Respirators

As one of the leading designers and manufacturers of respirators in the world, 3M provides products that address the needs of both workplace, regulated applications and do-it-yourself, non-regulated applications. For workplace uses, employees may be exposed to known concentrations of harmful contaminants for part or all of the workday. In these situations, respirators are intended to help protect the wearer by reducing their exposure to airborne contaminants from a level that may be hazardous to one that is considered safe or acceptable according to government established levels. In addition, home users cannot easily determine exposure levels nor do they have ready access to the type of training medical evaluation and fit testing needed to be in compliance with workplace respirator standards. In these situations, respirators are intended to help keep non-harmful dusts and certain particles out of your nose, mouth and lungs and with some filters help eliminate annoying odors only.

About NIOSH Respirators

This respirator is government approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) as an N95 class respirator and is designed for workplace, regulated uses and applications. NIOSH certification means the respirator has passed stringent government performance standards including filtration efficiency testing and provides at least 95% filtration efficiency solid and liquid particles that do not contain oil.

Fitting Instructions

1. Place respirator over mouth and nose, then pull harness over the crown of your head

2. Take bottom straps in both hands, place them in back of your neck, and hook them together.

3. Position face-piece low on the bridge of your nose for optimal visibility and best fit.

4. Adjust top straps first, then lower neck straps by pulling on ends. Do not pull too tight. Strap tension can be decreased by pushing out on back side of buckles. Perform a positive pressure seal check.

Positive Pressure Seal Check

1. Place the palm of your hand over the exhalation valve cover and exhale gently. If face-piece bulges slightly and no air leaks are detected between your face and the face-piece, a proper fit has been obtained

2. If air leakage is detected, reposition respirator on your face and/or readjust tension of the elastic straps to eliminate leakage

3. Repeat above steps until a tight seal is obtained

What's in the box

One 3M respirator face-piece, one pair organic cartridges, two pair pre-filters, one pair filter retainers

This mask works pretty well, but I did have to work harder than expected to add the vapor filters in. It did close and it is staying put as long as I don't bump it on anything while moving around. It is fairly adjustable and I can't smell the spray-paint while wearing it; which is the end goal.

Nice half face respirator. Comfortable, provides an effective seal. There are stress in the plastic 'arms' that connect the lower straps after trying it on. Not sure how long those arms will last.Mine arrived in packaging that was split open at the bottom - not impressed with whoever handled this order at Amazon.

There is a cough going around western North Dakota, and I caught it, which would normally not be a big deal, but since I get some exposure to crude oil vapors when I guage oil to load it, the cough aggravated into an upper respiratory infection. So I began 3 days of steroids and 10 days of antibiotics, and after 3 days at home on these meds I was feeling recovered. I went back to the job and after a few minor exposures to vapors my lungs were feeling like they were sort of burning, and I was coughing a lot. So rather than take 10 days off to heal, I thought I would try this respirator. I cannot even smell the vapors, and they do not effect me at all if I wear this mask. It is so comfortable that I forget I am wearing it. I always like the quality of anything I have ever bought by 3M. A co-worker is having the same problem I was having; he is simply not recovering despite 10 days on antibiotics. I heard him coughing a lot and chatted him up and shared my experience with this mask and so he wants one. As soon as I post this review I am ordering another for him since I have speedy Amazon Prime. I plan to tell my doctor also about this solution, because no doubt there are other oil field workers who are having this same problem.

I work with cement and there is lots of dust created. The disposable masks fogged my glasses and were not stable so looked for this after using one years ago.The mask is good, if you get the right size and put it on properly it created a almost air tight seal. It forces inbound air through the dual filters on each side of the mask and the out bound air is forced out thru a outlet between your nose and mouth area. You will sweat and or condensation buildup in the mask will add to the air right seal making the mask work even better. YOU WILL HEAR THE MASKS AIR WAYS CLICKING AND CLACKING AS YOU BREATHE WHEN THE MASK IS BEING USED PROPERLY.Cons: nobody can hear you with this thing on, you mask will leak after a while when condensation and or sweat builds up.(you can add tissue to absorb it but it will obstruct air flow) the mask needs to be cleaned daily as the rubber collects dirt and the inside is moist the entire time its worn. Before the mask I was blowing my nose and seeing dust coloration now I have clear ahh mucus and no rock boogers lol. Well worth the money the pros out way the cons.. Once you get used to the condensation discomfort your good. Pull the mask of wipe dry for a sec I'm the bathroom or whatever and back to work!
