Prior to this product, I used pool sand in my Intex filter. Tried this for the first time this summer season and it worked great. My Intex pool filter has a center stem (plastic stick) that goes into the tub and tells you how much sand to pour in - did not use that (no longer need). From this new filter balls, I only put in about 1/4 of the bag and it worked fine. I went 7 wks before opening this to clean (which is too long; probably should clean after 3 wks). Water was dirty and the filter balls where stained. I washed and rinsed them out several times and it was all good. One filter ball was extremely dirty and stained, so I just threw that one out.Very happy with the purchase and very happy I do not have to store half-used bags of pool sand.

Last pool season we fought sand being pumped back into our pool and were not as happy as we thought we’d be with our sand filter. But this year with the cotton balls?!? No sand on the pool floor, no algae EVER, crystal clear water all season long! We’ll never put sand in the sand filter again!

I’ve always had a sand filter, this year I had a smaller pool so I decided to give these a try. Clean pool all summer! When I drained the filter I tossed the balls in my washer and then the dryer! Perfect! Ready for next summer!!!

As a DIYer who is always looking for the best value for money, I was very impressed by the filtering power of these balls. I was able replace the paper filters in my intex pool pump by 3d printing a center insert. This allows me to stuff these balls all around the insert and use them instead of the cheaply made *but expensive* paper filters. This year when I filled my pool, thanks to my local water company, the water in the pool had a black tint to it. After putting about 1/3 of the package of these into my pool pump, I was able to notice a huge difference after 1 day. when I opened up my filter I was mesmerized by how black these balls were. I took them out and sprayed them off with my hose about every 2 days for the first week, and now my pool is crystal clear. I highly recommend to anyone that would be able to use these in their pump. You won't be disappointed.

These filter balls seemed to do a decent job of filtering. Once the pressure increased on my filter gauge indicating the filter was clogging up with debris, I backwashed the filter balls for several minutes. The backwash water did not look dirty which means very little of the trapped debris flushed out of the filter balls. The filter gauge measured a decrease in the filter tank pressure after restarting the pump on "filter", but the pressure reading was much higher than when the filter balls where first installed. That confirmed to me that the filter balls were not fully flushed out with backwashing. Pool water chemistry was good, but algae began to grow. After shocking the pool water to killing the algae and then running the filter pump 24hrs a day to clear the water, cloudiness in the water reduced, but never went away completely. Then algae started to form again. My trusted pool supply person who has been helping me monitor the chemistry said, "I think the filter media isn't doing the job." I replaced the filter balls with sand and the problem has not returned. The only thing positive I can say about these filter balls is that they are easy to remove from the filter tank when I switched to sand. The time window to return the filter balls has past, so I guess I'm stuck with the dirty balls.
