  • No, the 300W transformer's two zones share a total of 300W. One zone can use up to 240W (80% of 300W), leaving the other zone without power or allowing it to use the remaining wattage.

  • Under full load, the 300W transformer typically operates around 50°C, with the highest temperature reaching up to 70°C

This 300W Low Voltage Landscape Transformer with 2 Zones is an impressive design that has easy to understand controls. If you can set a digital clock on the microwave or night stand you can program this quickly. The manual is actually very good and easy to follow with a helpful sizing chart (picture) that gives you the right size cable AWG required given the total wire lengths and number of watts planned to be used up to the recommended 80% load of 300watts, which is 240 watts total. One of the first statements from the manual “The general capacity should have been determined prior to purchasing..” and this is a sound guideline. Since this 300w transformer has two zones I was curious about whether or not it was actually 150w for each, however there is no indication of that possible limitation. It appears that one zone could run using all 240 watts (80%) capacity recommended. What I like:1. Remotely positioned light sensor cable. This means you could install the transformer in your garage or shed and have the light sensor routed to a window or run it along with the 12-14V wires to the outside for positioning to get the best light detection for dawn/dusk. Note that this unit is waterproof and doesn’t need to be installed indoors but for security or aesthetic reasons it can be done without impacting dawn/dusk operation.2. 12V or 14 V load terminals provided, if you are planning to run near max load then using the 14V terminals will help push enough voltage out on long wire and higher wattage runs.3. Lots of simple options to turn on/off the power, you can even have the power come on with dusk and set a precise time off.4. Includes mounting bracket and screwsThe only issue I can see with the design is the fact that to reset the unit to factory settings you press and hold the “Enter” key for 3 seconds. I would have preferred to have a key combination for that operation to make it a little less easy to accidently clear the unit of all settings. Kids or someone not familiar with setup operation could undo/delete all the settings fairly easily. Also noted that there are limited specifications printed on the transformer and none in the manual for things like weight, AC/DC voltage, temperature operating range and the like. The label on the transformer states Output Voltage: 12V / 24V however I measured 13.3 VAC (with small load) on 12V terminals and 15 VAC on the 14V terminals. Even though not stated anywhere, this is an AC output, though this is typical of outdoor low voltage landscaping lights transformers. But no 24V here. The transformer weights 11 pounds. The manual does note that the transformer should only be plugged into a ground fault protected outlet. There is a re-settable circuit breaker button on the bottom. It is well made, with a handy display, robust and heavy, multiple zone capable and many options for run time.

I could not believe how heavy duty this is. I weighs 20 lbs. I am extremely satisfied.

The display function works, time sets and functions along with the zone selector. Transformer has no output on any setting. Transformer was tested using a light source known to work, and also a test meter. The product was reset to factory settings as instructed in the instructions and still no output. The reset button does not appear to be functioning either. There was no visible shipping damage. There is no contact information for the seller.
