I mean, yeah. It's a taser. Probably hurts like a mother.I recommend a single 3.7v lithium battery like either of the two in the image. These can deal with the significant current draw the device likes, and should not overvolt it in my experience.Keep the output leads less than a half inch away when getting things set. If there are too far away, you're gonna destroy the device. So start with a small gap and work your way up.With a 1.5 inch gap this thing snaps about as loud as a .22, likely louder than some. A nice intimidating crack like ripping a sheet of paper. Easily 1-2 a second with a good battery.Good qualities for self defense should one want to go that way.

I purchased a 5 pack of these dynamos. I attached a nine volt battery to the black and red (line) leads, but there was no current at the other (load) end. I tested all five with two batteries. Then I tested all 5 with a multi meter and found no flow of electricity from one side of the dynamo to the other. There was however, continuity from the black lead to the red lead. This was true for every voltage generator. I returned that first five and quickly received another five. All of these new ones tested identically to the previous five. It looks to me as if they have a defective manufacturing process and no quality control.I would like to retract this review. I used a fresh battery and ended up shocking myself.

The first one fried after half a dozen arcs. Hopefully number two does better!
