EASY TO USE (Two steps for accurate and reliable results)

STEP 1 (Prepare the soil's standard solution for pH and Nitrogen(N) testing)

1. Add 25ml distilled water

Add 25 mL of distilled water to the centrifuge tube.

2. Two level scoopsof soil

Use a sample spoon to add two level scoops of air-dried soil into the centrifuge tube.

3. Shake vigorously 30 times

Secure the lid tightly and shake the tube vigorously 30 times toensure thorough mixing of the soil and distilled water.

4.Stand upright for 30 minutes

Let the centrifuge tube stand upright undisturbed for 30 minutes toallow the pH ions and Nitrate Nitrogen ions in the soil to fully interactwith the

STEP 2 (Test the pH & N levels of the soil's standard solution by test strips)

1. Dip 2s

Take a 2-in-1 soil test strip and dip the entire testing area into the clear upper layer of the soil standard solution for 2 seconds.

2. Lay it flat for 60s

Remove the strip from the soil standard solution and lay it flat for 60 seconds.

3. Compare with color chart

Compare the color of the strip with the color chart immediately(discard the strip after 10 seconds)

4. Read plant pH&N Ref. Table

Refer to the plant pH guide to determine which plants are best suited for the soil or how to adjust it based on its current pH level.

I was suspicious of the PH reading the strips gave from two separate raised beds, in the very acidic range, so I decided to test the test strips. In addition the nitrogen indicators showed basically no nitrogen too which was suspect given my soil treatments. In the image attached, from left to right is a plain unused strip right out of the freshly opened container, the next 3 were distilled water, tap water and bottled water, all that should have been around a neutral PH of 7 and greenish, but indicating a 4 (orange). The second to last with PH showing bright green was a baking soda solution, so that at least “worked”, and the last was a highly concentrated 2-0-3 liquid plant nutrient solution, so the nitrogen actually showed up on the strip. If somebody was to rely on these for PH treatment of their soil, they would end up with an overly base soil that would kill things.

Great product, was pretty easy to use and get results instantly. This is great to know what kind of fertilizer to use on the grass and how much to put down because too much nitrogen can be harmful to grass. Everything is included and you truly need this if you are serious about growing plants of any kind whatsoever. If you ever want to see the full potential of your plants and all of your work, you absolutely need to test your soil and water!! This is a great soil test for a very reasonable price and it couldn't be easier to use. The color chart and instructions are printed on the bottle, which is very convenient during testing!
