We have very heavy clay soil and a huge problem with gophers so I need a rod that will help me find those tunnels. This tool would be great if the pieces didn't start to loosen up at the threads. Every time I went to use this tool, the threads would loosen making it impossible for me to use the rod.The rods themselves are quite sturdy so I think it would be a great tool if only the pieces would stay put. I'm going to have my husband try to seal the joints using a welder to keep the pieces in place.

I conduct soil and site evaluations for a living. As part of that work I often need to located septic tanks and utilize a soil probe for that work on a weekly basis. The description says it excels in moist soils. I am sure it would work well in loose soils and soils with a fair amount of sand and most wet soils. The rod is hollow. I think it would bend if you try to utilize it dry silt loam and clay soils. That being said it is well made but it is a hollow rod. Feels sturdy but not for dry firm soils.

This thing came in handy when it came time to work on my septic tank. It works well and is pretty sturdy. Comes with a nice set of gloves. Pricing is reasonable.

Thick enough that it doesnt bend. Made of 4 parts including the handle that screw into each other. I managed to find my septic tank using this.

Works great. It's easy to use and compact enough to fit in the trunk of a small car. As long as you follow the correct operating procedures, you won't have any issues.

I have a super rocky yard and every time I try to drive a stake I seem to hit one and I was tired of breaking stakes so I got this. It came packaged just fine with no defects that I could see. Getting it out you do have to assemble it but it took less than a minute. I took it out and used it to make pilot holes for a couple of decorations that I needed to stake down and it worked great. All in all, while I don't use it for its intended purpose it works great for what I need it for.

Sawowkuya Soil Probe Rod, 32-48 Inch Soil Sample ProbeI have no doubt that this would work great for finding water lines. The reason that I got it is thatI have a very very long water line, which I have no idea where it is located. I have been on a quest for months to find it. I got this tool to pierce the soil and try to locate the line. Unfortunately it arrived with threads missing from a section of the tool, so it is much shorter than it is supposed to be, and is not very useful.

The picture says the rods are solid, which is false because the rods are hollow. I'm not a very strong person but I bent them fairly easily with my hands. Don't bother using this in hard soil. You'll more than likely bend it. Only use this after a heavy rain where the ground is saturated.
