As a busy mom new to owning a boat trailer, I was honestly clueless about choosing the right lock. So many options looked the same online, but the prices varied wildly—some felt downright unreasonable. After reading mixed reviews (yes, I saw the ones about missing keys or fit issues), I nervously ordered this one, hoping for the best. When it arrived, I held my breath opening the package. First thing I noticed: three spare keys (hallelujah—no frantic key hunts before trips!). The lock itself has a rugged, industrial feel—thick metal casing with zero flimsy parts. It's heavy enough to feel theft-deterrent but not awkward to handle. Slid it onto our trailer hitch, and it clicked into place securely.I won't lie—I'd read about complaints like keys not working or sizing problems, but luckily, everything worked smoothly for us. The key turned without fuss, and the lock sits snugly. Is it as flashy as those high-end locks costing triple the price? Maybe not, but it's sturdy, straightforward, and does the job without overcomplicating things. For the peace of mind it's given me? Worth every penny.

Seems like it’s built well, unfortunately it would not fit my Big Tex utility trailer with a 2” ball coupler.

If you are like me, then you don’t want someone you don’t know taking your trailer. You built it yourself, and it’s nearly irreplaceable. OK, maybe you are just a little like me. I haven’t bothered with other locks as they are pretty useless. One of the from a name brand, I defeated in under 3 minutes with minimal noise and in 3 different ways after it wouldn’t unlock for a friend. To me these cheap ones are about as useful as a “caution area under surveillance” but without any actual cameras.I think I could still defeat this one with an angle grinder or reciprocating saw in under 10 minutes, but it would make a lot of noise. The lock may be the weakest spot, but it is easily upgraded to any standard 2 ⅞” puck lock - When I looked at this, I thought it might be a plastic shell, but that is not the case - it’s actually ¼” thick metal! A few other dimensions for you for the 2 5/16” model - the main shell is 5” inside diameter, the puck lock inside diameter is 3”. It is about 0.47” for the pin hole - which on the included lock is tapered at the end to make it lock easily. The pin hole is actually oblong as well, which does give the lock a bit of a looser feel, but doesn’t affect its security in any way I can see. The included puck lock is 2.82” in diameter with a pin just under ⅜” (/9.78 mm).I like that the puck lock is protected from the top from the elements, and the key faces down, which should keep it clean and dry in most cases. Again, the lock doesn’t appear super high quality - but I’m not a lock expert either. I do appreciate the curved key, which likely gives it a little more rigidity if your tumbler doesn’t want to turn in the cold.My trailer frame comes right up to the hitch - again being homemade. Despite this the lock still goes on all the way (with some room to spare). It fits my coupler quite tightly. I may be able to wedge my chains in there, but they are large hooks and larger chains than most, so I choose not to.Side note: I actually built myself a similar lock for a 2” coupler. I had quite at least half a day into it, and although its theft resistance is on par with this one, this one looks so much cleaner and more professional. Because of how the tongue tapers on this one I couldn’t utilize the same design, but this one does the job quite elegantly. No lock is perfect, and I still try to block the trailer in when possible, but I feel a lot more secure about my trailers safety with this lock on it. If you want to take it to the next level - since it is all metal you can (and I might in the future) weld a tab to it, and install a that alarms loudly if it senses vibration.

This item is massive in both size and weight which gives me lots of peace of mind. It was easy to install and with hooking up the chains and emergency break latch inside the unit it fit perfectly. I am confident this device will give a theif a run for their money if it ever comes down to it. I appreciated the set of keys (3) it came with and I like the fact it is a key type people cant just make a copy of. My puppy inspected it's effectiveness and approved lol!

The lock is a solid and heavy-duty option for securing my trailer. Right out of the box you can feel how heavy sturdy and sturdy it is, with a durable metal construction that gives me confidence in its ability to deter theft and mill make it difficult for anyone doing a destructive drill method to unlock it. It fits my 2-5/16 inch ball coupler perfectly, and the added feature of securing the safety chains is a nice bonus for extra protection. However, while the overall build is impressive, the lock mechanism itself feels a bit loose. It doesn’t feel as snug or secure as I would expect from a high-quality trailer lock, which raises some concerns about long-term reliability. That being said, it still locks properly and serves its purpose, but I would have liked a tighter, more secure fit. I also like the one click lock mechanism which makes it super fast and convenient to lock without having to us a key.Overall, this is a good, heavy-duty trailer lock that provides a decent level of security. If the locking mechanism were improved, it would easily be a 5-star product. Still, for the price and features, it's a solid choice for protecting your RV, camper, boat, or travel trailer.

I recently got the NiwNiw Trailer Lock, and I’m really impressed with how secure it feels compared to other trailer locks I have owned. The heavy-duty design makes it clear that this lock is built to withstand a lot of wear and tear, and it fits perfectly on my trailer. I really like how it also secures the safety chains as well. It’s great to have a little peace of mind, that my toy hailer will be more secure when I leave it parked at home or when traveling. The locking mechanism is easy to use and the build quality is top-notch, no cheap parts here this thing is solid, I don’t think a thief will be able to hammer this one off like they did with another lock I had owned. It fits well, is simple to install, and works great for added security when I'm out on the road.Overall, I’d definitely recommend this lock for anyone who wants to protect their trailer or RV from theft.

This is a massive lock! Just looking at - as a thief - I would walk away! The unit is really three pieces. Two pieces of massive 1/4" steel attach onto the end of the coupler; one that goes onto the bottom and kind of imitates the ball of your vechicle mount. It also supports the safety chains. The second piece is a huge, circular cover that full surrounds the coupler, safety changes and - in a moment - the lock.It takes two hands to slide this "cylinder" cover over the coupler with the base of the "inner slide".The lock is mostly a solid block of aluminum. It has a brass shaft that houses the "lock" - the springs and pins of a traditional lock. This is where you insert the special key. As you depress the brass shaft, that sits about 3/4" above the aluminum block, you can see the steel shaft slide down past a cut our and into a drilled out hole. It's the steel shaft that prevents that holds the lock into position. The aluminum lock is very well finished. It is chamfered on all sides. There are no burrs, sharp angles, round spots, or any such kind of defects. The aluminum block is very well machined! That special key has an interesting curve to it. I suspect it will be difficult to find other keys, should you need them, but by the same token, it will near impossible for someone to pick this lock. When all is in place, this massive steel shroud protects the entire front end of the coupler, and the lock as well. I think using aluminum for the lock housing is brilliant. Not for strength, because this part is surrounded by steel. It is for fighting off the elements. This will never rust. As well, the "lock" part of the lock is made with brass. Same deal. It will not be an issue with the environment. The only part of "raw steel" in the locking pin, and it is right inside the lock.Another small feature, the lock - where you insert the key - ends up at the bottom of the steel cylinder. It's basically hidden. And if someone wants to attack the lock, it could not be in a more difficult position. With my unit, the first thing I did was spend some time getting oil into all parts and areas. This will fight any kinds of corrosion and make the operation of all parts, easy and smooth.I have not tried this yet, but I will be interested in finding out from my insurance broker if a lock with these characteristics, will reduce my yearly insurance costs.Bottom Line - A very, very impressive lock! Solid 1/4" steel protection! Unique brass locking cylinder! When you come right down to it, this is pretty cheap insurance for whatever you are towing!

If you have a "A" frame style coupler and 5/16" chains, this thing fits great. Install your chain hooks under the ball on the lower plate, install lower plate and latch into coupler, slide outer tube over coupler and install puck lock. Fits tightly when chain hooks are installed under the ball.Only thing I might upgrade is the puck lock, aluminum is easy to drill through, I might install a stainless or alloy steel puck lock instead. All components are just a millimeter under 1/4" thick steel. Way better price at 130.00 vs. Proven Industries at 275.00. Come on it's just a steel tube and plate, the materials and labor to manufacturer don't cost that much. This fits and works great, highly recommend!

This design is very good at protecting your trailer from theft, very heavy duty gauged steel, locking mechanism is very hard to access and break . . . the price is less than half of other competitors.

This is one serious trailer lock, but there is room for improvement. I will actually replace the lock portion of it because it is made of aluminum along with the keys. The casting of this unit cannot be defeated, but the lock that they are using is made of aluminum except for the core which is made of steel. It can easily be broken with a hammer smashing against it dead center, which will compromise the core and pop the cylinder out. Again, I will just replace the lock. Also, aluminum keys are known to snap off and break inside the lock. It is still a pretty good value, and they were so close to having a perfect product for locking your trailer. However, with a short trip to my local hardware store I can easily close the gap and it will instantly become a perfect trailer lock! I gave it 4 stars because of how solid the steel locking system itself is. The box that they have it in isn't near strong enough to hold this heavy of a trailer lock, and three sides of my box were pushing open when I got it. When you are spending this much money on a trailer lock you really want to feel like you made a good purchase. They missed the mark with their presentation having it in a very thin box that couldn't hold up to the weight and size of this trailer lock. Plus the fact that they cut corners on the actual lock to keep thieves from opening this tongue hitch protecter. If you know it will need a more secure lock before getting it then this won't catch you off guard when you get it. I do recommend it.
