It will all do until you find out what you need to expand or upgrade to.This is a complete starter pack.The only thing missing is a water-spraying water squeeze bottle to clean parts or dissolve matrix.Every other tool is serviceable. By the time it fails or has an issue, you'll be looking for upgrading single tools and either getting known brands or buying by tool features as you learn the hobby.The only thing is the shovel. I've broken USGI Army e-tools digging in mud at Ft Hood. These will always be weak. Can't be this design and cheap aluminum. It will fail eventually, just be prepared.Good starter kit for rock hounders.

This is a fine kit, it includes a good range of tools and accessories. Individually it's all midrange quality stuff. The hammer is probably the most useful thing here, followed by the chisels. The shovel is not something you'd really want to use for move and large amount of material, but I think the idea is that you'd want to be more precise. For small jobs it seems okay.The wooden tools are identical to what comes in cheap clay sculpting kits. The magnifying glass is okay, it's a small jeweler's loupe. It is nice that it has a built-in cover to protect the glass. The whistle/compass/thermometer doesn't seem related, but it's kind of neat.The safety glasses were crushed flat, they're made of a flexible plastic so it could be bent back into shape. Still a bit misshapen though. There's not a good place in the bag to keep them from getting crushed again, but you there's room to add something pad it.The bag itself seems fairly well made. Not impressive, but effective to hold the kit and a little extra.Overall it's a reasonable kit for kids to play with rocks and have a starting point to engage with geology as a hobby.

This is a nice kit for rock exploration, including most everything you need to get started on exploring rocks and breaking them apart to see what is inside, whether it be a fossil or just for further investigation. Includes a nice case to store all the tools as well. I like this kit!

This could be one of the strangest, but best kits that I've purchased from Amazon. This Geology Rock Pick Hammer Kit from LASUK contains so many different tools and toys for amateur rock sleuths, and at $37 (at the time of this review,) would make a great gift for a scout or an explorer friend.The contents were all wrapped in plastic, and then those things were wrapped in plastic, and then ALL of it was wrapped in more plastic, and bound with tape. It looked like a package of illicit goods being smuggled when it arrived. (All of that plastic took me almost 10 minutes to cut away with scissors and a knife.)Once unpackaged, though I was impressed with the assortment of different tools and gadgets that were included. It's as if somebody walked through a hardware store, and a Hobby Lobby and grabbed anything that pertained to rock exploration, and threw it into the cart. There is even a multi segmented shovel with a palm sized scoop, that can fit into your glove box when broken down.Chisels, brushes, gloves, safety goggles, and a rock hammer that doubles as a chipping hammer, are included in the kit.Some of the tools are on the cheap end, but there are so many items in this kit, that for $37, you can't really complain. This is not a professional Geologist's or Earth Scientist's kit.And all of it can be stored in a big 13" x 9" bag (size when folded in half) with a shoulder strap for carrying all ten pounds worth of all of these tools.All in all, for less than $40, you've got a pretty thorough kit for fossil digs or just rock exploring. Five stars from me.

I picked up this kit to use as a door prize at my local gem and mineral club. I think it's a perfect kit to give to a budding geologist who is exploring a new interest.The tools, as expected at this price point, are Chinese-made, so I can't vouch for the quality of the steel under use. An experienced geologist would not be excited over this kit, but for someone just getting their feet wet it's a great way to start.The bag is sturdy and pretty well made, and the hammer and chisels are solid. The little wooden picks and brushes will be handy, and will let the user know what they like and need in their field kit.Hoping to make a budding scientist happy this Christmas!
