From the pictures, i just assumed these were gonna be like standard foam boards and that would be great as like the smaller size instead of getting the full sheets. For the most the are.Well, accept for how they look in the photo, as they would have been great with the flat/satin finish. Instead, the ones i got all are Gloss finish on both sides. It's not a complete deal breaker, just makes what i was gonna use them for, a bit more work to finish

I wanted an accent wall in my guest bedroom, but I am a renter, so that was not going to happen. Instead, I built a faux wall out of these and covered it with contact paper. Holding up well (probably not for kids' rooms) but this is just one way to use them.Of course they're good for a classic book report poster or other widely-known applications of poster board.

I ordered the IKAYAS 20-pack of black foam boards because I am always looking for different ways to display art and photographs. Having a primary background color like black seems to come in handy often. I like that the 11 x 13.8" size is small enough to stow on a shelf with my other craft supplies. The boards are what I would call craft or school project worthy but probably not suitable for mounting art or a discerning display. The polystyrene foam is covered on both sides with glossy black vinyl. The finish does not mask dents or scratches very well. I had to look at both sides of each board before picking which side to use because some were marred.I ended up using over half of the boards on a project for my home gym and they worked well as a border and support for the self-stick mirrors I wanted to hang. I was pleased with the outcome of my project.I would recommend these foam boards to anyone in need of a large number of boards for crafting or kid's projects at a reasonable price.

As a parent, I understand the importance of providing my teen with the right tools to excel in their artistic and educational pursuits. That's why we always order bulk art and traditional educational supplies - you never know when you might need them. These supplies have proven incredibly versatile, being used for anything from art projects to history presentations, diagram building, mounting artwork, and even string art. Not only are they versatile, but they are also made with high-quality materials that lend a professional touch to any project.

Not matte, not white ... but shiny plastic black material on white board.Needed to mock up some quick 3D models, so the material particulars weren't of major concern to me other than "black" and "foam core."However, had I been looking for the attributes in the product description I might have found myself in a bind.Used hot glue but had to adjust for the slickness of this stuff. Definitely not re-ordering.

So these boards are made out of a white polystyrene foam (e.g., they're styrofoam-esque) with what seems to be a very thin, glossy black layer of somewhat plasticky film on both sides. The good stuff: The material is rigid enough that it works well for adding some structure to a picture (e.g., if you tape or glue a photo, poster, or piece of paper to it) and it also works as a backing board within a picture frame (which is one of the things I needed it for, for a frame I had that lacked an interior backing board to hold a picture against the frame's glass), and it could potentially be used as a picture matte as well (e.g., if you cut a shape out of the center of the board, and then placed the resulting frame-shape on top of a picture) while adding a sense of depth to the matting since this foam board is around 5mm thick. It's also flexible enough that you can bend it into tight spots (e.g., if you didn't cut it exactly right to fit inside a picture frame, you can still press this into place without much danger of the board crumpling or creasing). The glossy black surface could also conceivably be drawn on directly (maybe with chalks or paints), although the plasticky nature of it will limit what types of materials could be used (e.g., paint it'll need to be plastic-friendly paint; this material isn't going to absorb the paint at all). It's also easy to clean -- since it's plastic, you can just wipe it down with a damp cloth when needed. And it's easy to cut to size -- just run a razor or utility knife across it to quickly cut the board. However, there are downsides: I've used nicer foam-board materials before -- I wish I knew the name of the type of foam I actually like, because the polystyrene/styrofoam materials used here is not the best material for a backing board, IMHO... I've used backing boards before that were basically made out of a nice sort of cardboard that felt kinda more substantial and classier (and were likely better for the environment), and I've used plasticky/foam boards before that at least had a sort of denser, more durable, and almost more pliable feeling to them -- and where, when cut, little bits of styrofoam didn't end up getting all over the place. Likewise, I've used some PVC-based plastic board before that could also be easily cut with a utility knife, but after a simple scoring with the knife the excess pieces could be easily snapped off, and, again, there were no bits of styrofoam fluff left floating around...So, you can probably see where my complaint is heading here: These boards have some tiny bits of polystyrene foam seemingly falling off of the sides right off the bat, and when you cut them even more bits of this styrofoam-like material comes loose. The shedding of polystyrene particles floating around can't be good for the environment, and I ended up needing to vacuum off my desk and the surrounding floor after cutting a few of these boards up to fit various picture frames... The black-plastic layer also makes the cutting a bit tricky, as you need to cut through both the top and bottom layers fully, or else when you try to break off the the piece you cut, any uncut pieces of the black layer can pull at the foam and create even more polystyrene dust particles....And then, related to that, the black covering and the polystyrene itself all seems to be highly prone to creating static electricity -- so you end up with this these tiny white polystyrene particles stuck to your hands and stuck all over the boards...Now, cleaning that up at the end is as easy as simply wiping everything down with a damp cloth (and/or vacuuming), as previously mentioned...So I don't want to over-emphasize this negative aspect of things -- all polystyrene foam boards probably have the same basic flaw, and really these boards are mostly quite easy to work with (and if you don't need to cut them, then they'll be especially easy to work with)....And in the end, after completing the cuts I needed to do and cleaning up the minor mess that was made -- the finished results I got from using these boards were quite good.
