Got the job done! Simple straps that could be used for the trashcan, but I have repurposed them for another task. They perform great and are very sturdy and built well. The hooks at the end are beefy and would work well if I used it on a trashcan. The stretch material is good for multiple environments and uses.

For less than $13 you can very simply eliminate one of the most annoying problems we have been struggling with for the last 6 years of so! These straps, which I honestly had no idea existed, are perfect. They strap on, hold the lid down and when we wake in the morning we no longer have trash thrown all over the yard and street. They are super simple to use and adjustable (unlike bungee cords). I highly recommend these. We win, raccoons lose.

I don't want to say these are life changing but when you spend several days a month chasing bins and picking up litter from blown over bins, these straps make a huge difference.The straps are adjustable and elastic, so they easily fit our huge trash bins and are simple to remove and replace. One strap on each has been enough to keep them secure and the garbage in place, and the lids haven't acted as sails and moved the bins all over the driveway and yard.If there's going to be a fail point, it's going to be UV and weather destroying the elastic, but that's yet to be determined and hopefully will be many years before it happens.
