These meters allow the user to easily determine the moisture level of the soil surrounding one's house plants. As a result, over or under watering -- both of which are harmful to plants -- can be eliminated. Usage is quick and easy: insert the probe into the soil, read the moisture level and only water when indicated. After using, simply wipe the tip of the probe with a cloth to remove any soil, and store the unit for its next use. Simple and effective!

I think these work sufficiently for the price, here's why. In all fairness I just received these today. I read the reviews good and bad, so I put the meters to the test right off. I put each one in a potted plant that I water on the same schedual, with the same potting soil, in the same environment. Both meters read the same for each pot, which told me I need to water tomorrow which is on schedual. Then I went to an unused bag of the same potting soil and placed both meters in the same bag, and once again they read the same which was #2 in the dry zone. Those who say, " THEN I PUT THEM IN WATER," didn't read the description or the few instructions which tell you, DON'T PUT THEM IN WATER ALONE. These can help me with a base line for my watering schedual, and worth the cost.

I thought it was funny that my one plant was drying out so fast. Then I decided to check putting both in the same planter. Turned out on just never worked.
