First of all, this isn't so much a unified product as a kit with a couple different products included. That's not a problem, but it feels like a bit of a kludge, and it is too expensive to justify the kludge factor.Included in the kit is a programmable thermostat plug, a temperature sensor that plugs into the thermostat plug, and the heating element itself. The thermostat lets you set a start and stop temperature. It can also work for cooling if you set start temperature higher than the stop temperature. There's a temperature sensor that runs from the controller. This sensor is completely separate from the heating element and its cord. I've ended up binding the sensor to the heating element cord so I can insert it and remove it all at once. The thermostat has a very clear, easy to read screen. In heating mode, the "start" temperature is the temperature below which it will start heating. The "stop" temperature is obviously where it stops. So, if you want to keep something between 95 and 100 degrees, set the start to 95 and the stop to 100 and the heat will cycle on and off to keep it in that range.I used this in barrels containing between 20 and 30 gallons, and while it takes some time to get up to temperature, it does eventually get there. The heating element has a protective stainless cage around it to reduce the chance of it getting damaged.I'd note that while this particular kit works fine, similar thermostatic plugs and immersion heaters can also be bought individually. There does not appear to be any significant savings in buying this kit.
