Loud, will it drive off a bear, i dont know, havent had one around since we got it, maybe they know we have it. Who really knows how bears work, have used it on dogs, drove them off, but they were resisting it and if they were agressive senough i dont think it would have stopped them. Gave me a headache.

This is a rather light and plasticy bear horn alarm from brand JIUSAIRUI is certainly a very loud device, and sounds bright and sharp at 120 decibels, but it lacks durability in my opinion, although being light, it will not take up any weight distribution in your camping pack so that is a plus.It is not rechargeable directly, unless you were to choose to install rechargeable batteries yourself, if there is such an option in Cr2, I am not sure. It requires 4 standard CR2 batteries, which are fine, but I do wish it has a built-in option. Perhaps having to use Cr2 means more longevity in the long-run, so I can see that being a plus for some people, also.I ordered mine in a standard red-black colour. It is very visible, and would be easy to see and grab quickly if ever the need arose. If I were a bear, I would be shocked at this sound. But… I am not a bear. Let us hope I never meet one. Whatever the case, this is small enough and very functional for its purpose and a good value overall. I would rather have one of these, than not at all. 4 stars.

Made from low grade Chinesium. The battery door does not fit and keeps falling off. At this price should be rechargeable, but uses 2032 coin cells. Should one need this for an actual bear, one wonders if it would work. It's loud, but only if the bear had you in it's mouth would I expect any reaction.***************************************I neither received nor solicited recompense in any form for this review unless very clearly noted!I am a retired computer/network/telephone/printer repair technician with more than 35 years experience. Pretty loud and very compact, have theee different noise settings and they are very effective at scaring off unwanted guests… I do recommend this for unwanted pests for sure.

These are not very loud at all, definitely not as loud as they state. I bought my wife the birdie before which is way louder than these. Not much good for anything. The size of the unit is good but thats all, way over priced for the quality. I don't recommend this item at all.

This is insanely loud, almost made me go deaf when testing. I'm hoping I never have to use it but feel a lot safer having this with me.

This horn is extremely loud. I have no doubt that a bear or coyote, mountain lion, or, frankly, any other animal with functioning ears would come near it.I intend to have this with me at all times when hiking, camping, and climbing.By no means should you ever trigger this horn indoors or anywhere near your ears. The only way I could safely test it is with noise reduction ear muffs. It has three different horn sounds, so you can try different settings. Each one is more annoying and awful than the last. This seems like a really good addition to the normal bear repellent arsenal.

Not as loud as canned air horn but it has a safety off button and fits in your pocket.

This bear horn comes with it's own bag for attaching to a belt loop or backpack, operates on batteries, and is well-made.It's also loud!Whether it sends the bears away is not something I can attest to, thank goodness, but it should! The fours stars is because I can't say whether it work for its intended purpose or not!Great stocking stuffer for those who love the outdoors!

This is the loudest handheld device I know of.It's louder than personal security alarms. It's loud enough to be painful and you need to plug your ears for anything more than short bursts. It's at least as loud as a quality whistle blown with all your might.I could easily imagine this deterring wild life (wanting to get away from the unpleasant noise). No bears were available for testing though.I can't say how one would react up close. This is certainly less subtle than bells. But yeah, if you're going into bear country, you could give this a shot.I'm thinking this could perhaps have another use: for signalling from a distance. The sound will carry pretty far.But I wouldn't assume anything about how animals will react. While we stood there stunned with our ears bleeding, and people elsewhere in the house asked "what was that?", our old cat two rooms over just continued its nap unbothered.Yes the device is good for one-handed use. It's small and light, but not tiny though. Its also not especially weatherproof. The sound is a kind of warble. One is a slightly slower warble, one is faster, one is more like a buzzing. This in no way sounds like a horn or roar to me.

Haven’t had to use it in the wilds yet and that’s ok but it is loud and piercing and I feel more relaxed having it when I hike with my dog. We have black bears, cougars and very aggressive protective mama deer. I wouldn’t trust it alone in grizzly country but here I think it will suffice.
