Extension looked nice and heavy duty. Unfortunately, it bent as soon as the router bit touched the wood. Fortunately, no injuries or major damage to router. Apparently, very soft steel.

When using a bushing to trace a pattern, a collet extender is often needed for the router bit head to clear the bushing. This ¼” shaft extender fit my Craftsmen palm router perfectly. All routers I own have a mechanism to lock the motor shaft to enable you to use a single wrench to tighten the collet on a bit shaft.This collet extender requires two wrenches: a 14mm to stabilize the base and a 17mm to tighten the collet itself. You must supply these wrenches. Many palm routers come with a small 17 mm wrench, but it would have been nice if this extender came with the smaller wrenches necessary to use it. I had to use my metric auto wrenches, which are awkwardly large.

I'm going to be building a slab flattening jig to flatten some live edge slabs, and one of the things I anticipate needing is a collet extension for my router. Because of the speeds involved with routers, I wanted to make sure that I got a well constructed one, so I wasn't sure how this one would be when it arrived.I haven't been able to put this to the test yet--you really don't want to use a collet extension in a handheld router application--but it appears to be a solid piece of equipment. This extension matches the spec'd dimensions in the product photos, and the most important dimensions--the diameter of the extension's shank as well as the inner diameter of the collet are both right on at 1/2". Overall insertion depth (i.e. the depth that you can insert a router bit's shank into this extension) is just over 1-3/8". Note that the compression sleeve inside the extension nut does seem to be captive--it doesn't freely come out of the nut when you fully unscrew the nut from the extension shaft.The machining on this is smooth, and the threads are well-formed; the collet nut threads on smoothly and securely. It arrived in plastic "case" that while not particularly impressive, should do the job of keeping this from rattling around and dinging up your router bits if you keep them loose in a box or drawer. Once I get my slab flattening jig made and get to spin this up, I'll report back if I experience any issues with this extension.Overall, for the price, I think this is well made and a good value.
