This collet fits fine without grinding it down. The problem with the M12 Rotary Tool 2460-20 is that the stock collet has very deep reliefs cut into it and when it snaps it leaves a 5mm metal collar deep in the neck of the tool. That left over metal will stop the replacement collet from seating correctly. One solution is to pull out the stump using a M4.2x30 metal screw and a pair of vice grips. Any long screw will do, of course.

If I would have known buying a Milwaukee rotary tool would require a poorly designed collet I would not have purchased it and just gone with a Dremel. That being said the part works and fits perfectly.

The part did not fit the milwaukee rotory tool. I had to modify the collet for it to fit and they broke quickly after

I cannot speak to those who claim this is made from a metal too soft ... that easily breaks ... but is is certainly to long for MY M12 Milwaukee "rotary tool." I ground down ≥ 1/8th in and now it fits. The last collet I had in the tool (and I THINK it was an actual Milwaukee part) also shattered into 4 pieces. Maybe the length of the un-cut collet ends up too small to hold the spring tension of the collet and still not 'spit' under pressure? All I know is that I HOPE Milwaukee supplies these ... somehow. This is (as noted by others) one expensive part ... when you consider the dirt cheap (and perfectly usable) Dremel equivalents out there. If one cannot find the expendable parts for the Milwaukee ... Milwaukee might find their customer base dropping off over this. I hope not. The Milwaukee version of these 1/8 in shaft miniature tools is solid and seems strong. However, this collet is its Achille's Heel I am afraid. If you have a grinder, and a pair of needle nose pliers, then this part works. It does require YOUR WORK first, however, TWO STARS for that. Sorry vendor. I suppose there could be TWO versions of a Milwaukee rotary tool out there? If so then the vendor SHOULD be clear. And if not .... then this is a dishonest way to offload this product.

I always try to have a spare of a critical part such as this. You never know when a small part such as this is misplaced and can't be found. Too bad that it is so expensive though. This part had some rough edges that needed to be cleaned up with diamond files so that it functions properly and is easy to remove.

Collet works perfect for the Milwaukee rotary tool. Just a little pricey for what it is.

The original one in my Milwaukee M12 rotary tool broke, would no longer hold or tighten around the bits and so I got this one for the fix. It was an exact replacement, easily installed and the tool works great.
