I am happy with this SCUBA finger reel. The reel & double-clip seem sturdy, and gave no problems during a week of diving. Not having a frame, it is small enough to keep in a BC pocket until needed.

Compared to the plastic reel that came with my SMB this reel arrived ready to attach and go. It features a robust metal clip (not plastic). The clear plastic is thick and seems as if it is quite impervious to damage. The center hole is ¼” larger than my SMB reel, making it easier to manage with gloved hands. Compared to my SMB reel, this spool’s diameter is slightly narrower and the depth significantly wider – by almost 1/3. Flat braided line. Both my plastic SMB reel and this one seem quite impervious to breakage even though the plastics are clearly of two different types. It is a solid choice, and I recommend it.

Original I thought the spool was aluminum however once I received it I realized it was plastic. My first thought was "this will not last". I took the spool outside and threw it about 10' in the air, it with the concrete and was perfectly fine. I tried it again and threw it about 20' with the same result, the spool bounced and other than a slight scratch it was perfectly fine. As with any plastic I wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight but don't worry about anything else other than fire damaging it. The nylon braid beight yellow, flat, and winds up easily. The bolt snap is 316 stainless and will be fine for saltwater.

This reel comes loaded with bright orange cordage. Only thing that troubles me is the fact that it's plastic. It's seems strong enough, and pliable enough that it'll be fine under normal use. I'm a bit concerned about how/if it'll hold up to being knocked around with the other gear -- I tend to trust cast aluminum reels a bit more than plastic ones. But, like I said -- it's plenty strong, should be just fine. Just an FYI.

Got this to toss in my scuba bag to replace some aging reels that I have. This reel is constructed well and the snap clip allows me to easily store the reel without it getting untangled in my bag. All in all this is very well constructed and I cannot wait to use it on some upcoming dives that I have planned!

One of the "pros" the description page says is this reel is "larger than others". I tend to like to keep my gear pretty compact so that it doesn't get hung up on this while I'm diving. So being larger isn't necessarily a good thing. There are some advantages of this being a little bigger though. It is certainly easier to handle while wearing gloves. It's a bit easier to attach a clip to so you can clip this to you BCD.It comes with a double ended snap clip which seems to work well.I use my reel for different things. While on a wreck, with limited or poor visibility, it's good to have a line so you don't get lost. This line works good for that as it is also very visible. I will also use a line when I deploy my marker buoy before I surface. One modification I like to make to my reel is tie a simple knot at 15 ft. It helps provide a visual reference for when I'm doing a safety stop. Ideally, the first 15 ft of line would be a different color, but the knot is pretty simple too.
