I was expecting something better than I could make with a children's group.

The sound of this little wave drum is incredibly realistic and calming. Sounds just like the ocean! I was not expecting much and was so pleasantly surprised. I bought it for personal use but I would even use this little drum in sound baths for others, it sounds so good.

I took off one star for durability as the materials feel pretty cheap, particularly the plastic drum "heads". It's an easy material to scratch up. That being said, it's decent quality for the price and it does really sound like the ocean. It's really easy to pick up and learn to use and the sound is relaxing. I'll probably use it for meditation purposes, but my partner, a musician, will almost certainly steal it from time to time to add cool sounds to recordings.

I experienced an ocean drum for the first time during a sound bath a few months ago and was enchanted. I have been exploring sound and vibrational therapy every since. When I saw this ocean drum, I was delighted to have one of my own. When I picked up the delivery box, I could hear the ocean sounds and couldn't open the box fast enough. I love it! I need to learn a little more about how and when to use it, but so far, so good!

I got this thinking that its best use was probably as a drum or maybe even a tambourine. It will certainly work that way if you wish. However, I found that if I hold it flat and moved it in a circular motion it makes a sound like rain or waves lightly meeting the shore. It is very meditative.

This hand instrument has an interesting sound, about halfway between white noise and ocean waves.I don't particularly find anything useful from attempting to play this with my hand as an actual drum, the main use seems to be rolling it back and forth. I do note that any illusion of waves fails when rolling the drum too slowly (trying to imitate the end of a wave's motion on the beach, for example), because I can hear the individual beads moving.I'm not a meditation person, so I can not speak to how this might be used in those circumstances.I can see this serving a niche role in an acoustic setting. For recording or productions already having electronic sources available, however, there are much better wave sound generators.

I have found a new way to terrorize my cats (ha). They hate this, but I think it's really nice for what it is. It creates wave-like sounds, which can be applied to a variety of uses; personally I ordered this for musical recording/sfx purposes. I do wish there were a way to suspend it without holding it, but I'm sure I can rig up something. Would not get this for a small child (they will have found a new way to terrorize YOU). Came a little scuffed, but not a bad value!
