...just watching the balls in motion is relaxing.

I have been wanting an ocean drum for a long time! I got these and have had a lot of fun with them. They do sound like the ocean and waves crashing! I would love it in a bigger size for more deeper sound. But in the meantime these are great! If you want to use them in sound healing which I will do they are also great for the kids. They are made well and it's fun that they give you two of them. You can really play around with these and go slow or fast and shake them around for different sounds. Very pleased with the drums!

Nice, fairly inexpensive (at the time of this review) set of “ocean” or “rain” drums. They are a small size with a smaller number of metal balls in them, so they aren’t going to give a deep rumble like some of the larger noise maker drums of this style. But they’re fun to play with and well made. I like to hold them flat and get the balls going around in one direction - like a clock or wave, and listen to the sound. Or stack them on each other and barely move them, or tilt the top one just a little bit.Just fun to play around with and listen to!They’re good for what they are. Of course, one that’s 2x bigger will probably sound better, but also cost a lot more, and be potentially more difficult for small kid hands to play with easily.

The price for these two ocean drums is CRAZY! Honestly, I expected them to be crap and they are not at all, they are good. They are not the BEST quality, but they are well worth the investment and they could easily be enhanced by adding a light fabric over the drum to muffle a little. If you are on a tight budget and want to add to your sound therapy instruments, I HIGHLY suggest these.

When I was teaching elementary music I had a very large Remo ocean drum. It was very good and fascinated the children. These drums are not on that level. They are much smaller and the sound is pretty UN ocean-like. I am planning to give one to my one year old grandson. He will get a kick out of it and he can add it to his already considerable collection of children’s percussion. You definitely are getting what you pay for here. If you want a really good ocean drum it needs to be much bigger and much deeper and will cost considerably more.

I live at the beach, so I hear waves all the time. It takes a bit of an act of imagination to think that this sounds much like ocean waves, apart from being kind of noisy. I also don't find it nearly as meditative as the images would lead you to believe (and my cats are deeply alarmed when I play it). Still, it has some interesting potential. It has two clear drum heads on either side, and a small quantity of metal ball bearings inside, and it can make quite a racket if you just hit it or turn it. If you mute the drum heads, though, it comes across as kind of like a snare drum with the noisy rattling intensifying the harder you hit it. Of course, it's about as much like a snare drum as it is like ocean waves. Still, it's a fun noisy drum that you can get some sweeping timbral variation from by turning it from side to side while you play. I think there is a lot of potential for fairly unique sounds either in an array of percussion or for sampling, so I am glad I got these.

Somewhere between a tambourine and a drum, these percussive instruments are a great fill. They're fun to play and you can get some pretty cool sounds out of them, although I would say that they are likely and accent sort of instrument, and probably not one you'll need to put on every track. They could also serve great for younger or less experienced players who want to join in the fun, but haven't learned an isntrument.

These ocean drums exceeded expectations. Value is excellent, and this is an instrument you can pick up and get the hang of pretty quickly.Depending on how this is used, you can create smooth, slow rolling tones or rapid percussive tones akin to rain falling on a tin roof.5 stars for quality, value and most of all - enjoyment.
