Auto electrics is what I used this for. If you overload the tool it melts the circuit board. Other than that it works well. Like an inexpensive power probe.

As a professional auto mechanic I utilize electrical diagnostic and testing tools on a regular basis. This circuit tester allows for not only testing for the presence of voltage and ground with a simple touch of the probe tip and looking for either a green or red led light, but also allows the user to apply both voltage and ground to the circuit or component being tested to verify operation. Super easy to use and amazingly useful !!!!

Got this for obvious reasons and it does the job very well. I was able to diagnose and find a loose wire on my motorcycle, causing the Neutral to go on and off. It is well made and works great. I would purchase again.

This is supposed to have a circuit breaker in it so that if you apply positive or negative to the tip and it's a short, the breaker will pop. As far as I can tell, it does have a breaker, but it's very very not sensitive and you can't hear it pop or reset. I'd much prefer a breaker exposed on the outside so you can see it pop and reset it when you want.I tested this with a weak battery and it definitely works to show green and red based on what the tip is touching - that's nice. Applying positive to the negative terminal or negative to the positive generates a very weak buzzer after several seconds and the unit gets very warm I tested with a volt meter across the terminals and it definitely is giving up after some time (i.e. the breaker popping) but I can't hear it pop or reset. The fact that the body of the unit is made of super cheap plastic and gets very warm makes me think you better not be depending on the "safety" features of this thing.Regardless, it does mostly work and it's cheap. You get what you pay for I guess. If you just need this for occasional troubleshooting and you know what you're doing, it's probably fine. If you don't know what you're doing, you should probably get a more expensive unit with more reliable safety features.

Great tool for assistance in troubleshooting power or ground in 12 volt systems. Small size with long + and - cables for battery connection. Long piercing probe for tough to get to wires or even pin holes on harnesses. Great price for this type of tool.
