100/10020 years ago I bought a doumbek from Senegal that was hand hewn from a solid log and the head was actual skin . . . now, the head has decayed and it can no longer be played.I got this head, knowing it would not be a simple task since this was not a “commercial” drum and was hand made to fit using ropes and cords, not “hardware”.It HAS been challenging, but the head does work.I’m sure if this were a modern, machine made doumbek, the job would have been easy-peasy and perfect.Ultimately, is it worth the price? Certainly!

I made my own drum shell, and this looked like a good fit. It was exactly what I wanted, and I really like the tone of the skin, not too bright but it's still cuts through the mix. I will have to explore the other products this company makes.

Seller substituted clear for black, but that is actually fine with me.The problem was, I hit the wrong button (after measuring, no less) and ordered the 8.75" head instead of the 8.62" version. So, unfortunately, I can't mount this--it is just ever so slightly too large to fit on my drum.So far as the quality of the head, it's the same weight as the one that came with my drum. It's well made, with no obvious defects. So, I would recommend this head--decent price and quick delivery.
