If do not have a separate power source running in your intranet, you will need the optional power adapter. Intranet is NOT the internet. The intranet is your local cable system which basically connects to your computers, router, switches and modem. Most home and small business based intranet systems do not have a optional power source installed, so it is a safe bet your will need the optional power adapter.
