A High-quality Starter Trombone from Yamaha The brass experts at Sweetwater recommend that budding trombonists learn on the Yamaha YSL-354. In fact, many trombone players around our campus started out using this awesome instrument. It delivers a great tone that’s well suited for all musical applications. Plus, it’s durable enough to withstand the dings and dents that arise from bumping the tuning slide and hitting the music stand with the main slide, or accidentally connecting with other students in the band. The YSL-354 offers smooth, balanced playability and has features that encourage proper playing technique. This high-quality trombone also has a 2-piece yellow brass bell and a gold lacquer finish that looks amazing under rehearsal lights and is easy to maintain.Helps facilitate proper technique From solo performances and jazz rehearsals to symphonic bands and marching fields, and everywhere in between, Yamaha’s YSL-354 is easy to play. This isn’t new Idk why it’s advertised that way probably because it sells for a 1/4 of that price used but that’s just my guess.

The trombone was a bit more raggedy then I wanted to admit when I got it used, but it does the job just fine. Good value for what we paid. The used trombone was about $40 more then what I was paying for a rental all year. And now he can have it thru the summer also. If he ever decides to do this longer then we can always trade up for a new one

I had (again had) an issue with a purchase and the folks made it right - without my asking. I'd buy from them again understanding their ethics.

We bought one used in perfect condition for our 12 year old. It was $20 more than renting for a year so it was an excellent choice and a better instrument.

Excellent trombone. Even though what I got for my son is second hand. The previous buyer took good care of it and the quality of YSL-354 Trombone is just amazing. Before I bought this one, I bought a Stagg Lacquer Plated Slide Tenor Trombone with brand name SKY which cost about $200. (Please avoid it at all cost.) It looks great at first but the inside of slide rust quickly and my son had a very difficult time with it for two years. Finally my son entered middle school and really wanted a better one. His band director e-mailed me his advice:"The slide not sticking is the most important quality. If the curved-part of the Trombone slide is resting on the floor, and you pick up the rest of the trombone (straight up) then the outer slide (the part resting on the floor) will stay on the floor and the inner slide will lift straight up (and out if you pull too far) from the outer slide. If the outer slide 'catches,' then when you lift, the whole trombone (inner and outer slide) will lift up off the floor."My son's old trombone "catches", big time. Then I found Yamaha USL-354, e-mailed the band director's advice to the seller and confirmed that this trombone would work just like the band director requested. Got the trombone. No problem ever since. Wish I knew the trick two years ago.
